Okay so after reading the group for a while....does the Filipino language contain a bunch of English words? I feel like it's a mix of Filipino & English in every comment, is it just the way the language is or people there actually mix words? Just curious as a linguist :D

I noticed that also. It’s hard to understand when translator doesn’t pop up.

Yeah, we do have a lot of English loanwords! A lot of people in the Philippines tend to mix both Filipino and English words/phrases, as some words are easier expressed in English.

Hi! It's the Visa Journey group on facebook. Just a heads up, most members there are Filipinos, I think, so most of them are speaking our language lol

Can someone help me understand why a group was formed on Facebook that does not have all the tools that VJ has? Even the Philippines subforum offers enriched answered from others who have been down this road or others who are now processing. All can offer more then the FB group. Am I missing something? Now before you spam me this is a honest question. Just asking. :D

Anyone can name a fb group anything they want.  Unfortunately there aren’t really any experts there or useful tools.  It’s just a meeting place.  Some people ask the craziest questions there and you wonder how there are ever gonna get a K1.

Thank you. I was aware that you can just about do anything on FB and that is one of the reasons I deleted my account. So I have no access to look the website over. But, I enjoy being here.  Thanks for enlighten me on the FB Filipino group.

Older Filipinos 60+ tend to not have much of a grasp on the English language. My wife speaks English but she sometimes has trouble placing the words in a sentence so they are grammatical correct and sometimes we laugh together as she will see my face and it shows utter confusion. She's cute about it and says "how you say that one" and then I try and figure out what she wants to say. We laugh a lot about it. But most times she does a pretty good job. Now my step kids they were brought up in the Philippine school system and were taught English from day one of school and so they speak it fluently. But when they are together they speak Cebuano (which is one of three of the Languages used in PH) with each other, and only on occasion can I figure out what they are talking about because an English word gets used every once in awhile.

Lemme add some info. About this FB Closed Group.

Philippines has a limited access to internet. And FB is the most easiest way to get some info. about others who already had experience about the processing. Internet there is expensive, so people opted to use FB rather than web browser. Luckily enough i am here abroad, i could use both FB and the VJ on the web browser. I must say, i gained a lot of knowledge here. Thanks for everyone who shared their journey with us.

They might be January 18 of the new website and not the old one, which make a huge difference tho. The new website had made it super hard to know what dates are really getting approved. :(

How does two dates with a span of 2 or 3 days between them make a "huge difference". Those numbers only mean one thing and that is your NOA2 has been approved. Those dates are not used for anything. I don't understand why people ask. Pardon me if I fail to see the "huge difference". I'm hoping for the day that I never hear "is that from the new site or the old site" I wish they would just turn the "old site" OFF.  Oy Vey. :dancing: Ok, back to the joy of approvals and questions.

Hi all! Congrats to everyone on their approvals, and good luck to those of us still waiting.

Hoping that my approval comes any day now, I've started to work on preparing things for the next steps of the process. One question I have is about the I-864 my fiancé will need to bring to his interview. For proving capability of providing support, does anyone know if the Guangzhou consulate requires 3x the income requirement or 5x?

I am currently living and working abroad in China, and my taxable US income is near zero, due to the foreign earned income exclusion. So, though I make enough to meet the requirement, it does not count for this test, and I will have to either use my assets or a joint sponsor. From what I've read, I-864 at the K1 process only requires a minimum of 3x the income requirement, and 5x for AOS, but some consulates have a higher bar and require 5x at the interview. I can't find any information about the Guangzhou consulate, and was unable to reach anyone helpful by phone.

Thanks!

I can't speak for your particular circumstance but this would be a good question to ask over in the China Sub Forum here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/94-china/

Lots of experts that can help. Asking in a thread like this one is going to be hit or miss and mostly missing finding someone who knows, as they are preparing for there Embassy in their country.

Also, in your profile box to the left, select "timelines" near the bottom. Then scroll down to "show similar timelines" and out pops a list of about 15 other ppl from china that you might ask.

Select your Flag from your profile and you will be taken to your Embassy's page here on VJ for additional information.

Next, have you scoured the US Embassy in China for a possible answer. How about a google search. http://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/cn-iv-visaapplyinfo.asp

I hope this helps. Good luck.
