I guess I don't understand why USCIS takes so long as this is essentially just making sure applicants have submitted all the proper paperwork. They have a list of what they require/accept & either it is or isn't that. NVC does the background check which seems more important & they move quickly. Also I think having an ESTA clearance should expedite things but I know it's too much to ask two different government departments to share data & communicate like that.

USCIS also runs checks, not just NVC
They have to run the names through many databases- i.e. FBI etc
That's why you have people from June/July 2017 still waiting on background checks and they don't have NOA2

nothing is "simple" about this process. And no, having an ESTA does not make anything easier. Because that's just more things to look into (i.e did you overstay that ESTA, etc)

Guys, don't depend on VJ timeline.
That's really going to disappoint you BIG time. It really doesn't mean anything because half the people on VJ don't update their timelines accordingly to help with that data.
Half of y'all most likely will get your approval AROUND the timeline and the other half are gonna be WAYYYY out there.

For all of y'all sorta new in the game- keep your eye on day 200. I know USCIS kinda picked up and tons of people in Sept/Oct got stuff around 180 but over time, I've seen that 200+ is most likely when things shall happen.
IF you pass day 200, THEN maybe you can start thinking about it.

Stay calm. Y'all are sooooooooo close :D

The ESTA is not your tourist (or any other) visa. It is just approval to travel to the US & is good for 2 years. The point being that they supposedly do some kind of background check to approve your ESTA so some of that work has already been done.

NVC does not do the background check for I-129f petition / K1 visa. Actually NVC does nothing for a K1 but to move it to the consulate.

If it was just  "it is or it isn't" there wouldn't be any RFEs and for a tiny little mistake everything would go down the drain.

Right - the RFEs are for when it isn't.

I had before that the NVC did a background check. I will have to find the source again.

Believe me most of the problem is not because of k1 petitions as there aren’t that many anyway, it’s the number of other petitions that are growing too fast.

and k1 is an easy visa to get overall. So checks are really important regardless of what beneficiary’s country is. Someone having an esta or being cleared for a visa does not show they don’t have fraudulent intend or any other reason behind them not getting through. Because none of these visas checks someone’s background or if they lied unless it was uncovered during port of entry with those visas.

Yeh that's why we went with k1. When i explained to my parents it was taking longer than anticipated (since applying in Jan meant pretty much estimating off 2016 info) they asked if we could just get married first. Nooooo! That visa takes longer, we'd have to start all over again, & likely I'd have to go live in England if we wanted to be together in less than 1 1/2 years!

Just frustrating as appaprently the Electronic System for Travel Authorization can check multiple databases in 20 min "the ESTA quickly checks all of the various databases available about you, for example Interpol, US government state and federal agencies, and certainly other databases that are undisclosed to the public".

Hello guys,

I just received a case tracker noticed (Withdrawal Acknowledgement Notice Was Sent) The notice stated: On May 24, 2018, we received your request to withdraw your Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiance(e), Receipt Number ---------- and completed our review. We mailed you a Withdrawal Acknowledgment Notice.

The only problem is I did not request to withdraw my case. I never even got the I-797. I called USCIS a couple months ago to notify them that I did not receive the I797 and rep told me not to worry because I have the case number and should be able to track the status that way. Now I do not know what to do. What should I do now? I was happy when the case update notification popped on on my phone but I am very disappointed with no clue of what to do. Please help!!

I may be jumping the gun a bit, but today is day 141 and I am inpatient, I wrote to my congressman's office today requesting assistance in getting my case adjudicated within the 5-7 month timeframe, it will be 5 months in 9 days. I figured asking for assistance wont hurt..I am  not expecting action right away but maybe I will get lucky and get a reply in the next month or so. I am visiting my fiance in 5 weeks, hoping to get an approval before I leave for my trip.

NOA1 01/08/2018

Yeah, that sounds like jumping the gun a bit... they haven't even started on December, and are probably not at 50% of November. I wish you luck though, I know it's not fun to wait!

Plenty of people waiting past day 200 right now.

Give them a call to see if you have the right case number, and then ask what happened.  It's concerning to me that you never got the original I-797, too
