Here is the background of my situation, which I am seeking help with:

I'm a green card holder who is a soldier with the WI army national guard since 02/11/2016. I got shipped to basic training (fort Jackson,SC) November 2016 where the army assisted me with the application for citizenship and completed all the required paper work, the interview and the test. USCIS told me that I would get naturalized by the end of the training on the family day which would be Jan of 2017. At the end of the training my name didn't get called; because they hadn't complete my background checks as they said. I got shipped again to Fort lee VA, in February 2017 for another military training (AIT) and stayed there through May 2017, and still didn't get naturalized due my background checks not being completed while every body else got naturalized.I finished my training and came back home (WI). Until today my case still pending. My file right now at Milwaukee,WI USCIS field office. why I continue to have a pending case with USCIS for more than 15 months and why they have not been able to be completed, even though it is my understanding that the army is prioritized in this process.??? I have contacted the USCIS for my case many times but they only have one answer "your case is pending due background checks not completed". Also,I went twice to USCIS Milwaukee field office but absolutely they didn't help me at all and they told me to wait, but that's all I have been doing for a year now... "waiting".

congress didn’t help either.

anyone has similar issue?? What should I do ?

I’m so sick of waiting!

Thank  you

I’m on the same boat as you. I filled N400 August 09, 2017 and until now I’m still waiting for the interview. What kind of visa do you have? 2 or 10 years? Mine has expired yesterday and I’m not sure if i should renew it or just wait until i get my N400.

Mine (2 years GC) has expired last January.

I filed the N400 way before you and still waiting.

I personally did renew the GC but haven’t heard anything for USCIS regarding the I751 yet even though I applied for it October 2017. When I went to infopass appointment the offier told me that I should of not applied for renewal since I’m having a pending N400 with them for more than a year. So it’s up to you if you wanna spend the $680 or not.

I have been waiting for 15 months now and I already did the interview at basic training Nov 2016 but I really don’t know what to do!!? I tried everything nithing works.I don’t have money to file mandamus too.

Thanks

I have a similar case.
Enlisted in Oct 2016.
Basic from Jan 2017.
N-400 was submitted to USCIS on Jan 17, 2017.
Interview was completed during basic.
Waiting since then. Very frustrating.

I am on 10 year GC.

I used to call USCIS Military hotline a lot where they got frustrated with me because i was calling them every few days. My case status online shows: On October 4, 2017, we scheduled an interview for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, Receipt Number LIN*00XXXX. We will mail you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

I don't think religion or country of origin matters. But FYI i am Buddhist from Nepal.

My background was cleared and i had my Oath scheduled for Oct 30 last year but DoD changed policy for LPR soldiers on Oct 13, 2017. https://www.defense.gov/News/Article/Article/1342430/dod-announces-policies-affecting-foreign-nationals-entering-military/ and they had to start all over with more scrutinized background check. Since then, every time i call, i am hearing - your background check is pending. There is nothing i can do at this point other than being frustrated of this wait. I went to local field office, called, emailed but no help.

Hey Mohtaq, i was at my base last week and was told by my chief that my security clearance finally went through and it got determined favorable which means 'approved' but since i am not citizen yet, security clearance can't be granted. My SC packet was submitted on Dec 2016 and took 14 months, 2 interviews with me and 3 reference interviews with my employer, relative and friend. Finally its relief to know that it got approved but i am not sure if it will have any positive impact on pending N-400.

Is your clearance approved already ?

I had the same exact thing, the security clearance folks told me about 5 months ago that I’m cleared and they just want a copy of my citizenship once I get it to give me the secret clearance. But that’s has totally nothing to do with the citizenship.

Secret clearance done by OPM while the sh*t we are waiting on is by the FBI and other agencies.

@lovethemidwest, i think it will make easier if your N-400 and SC are being worked on side by side. I had my SC interview back in June 2017 and investigation was closed on Feb 2018. i guess completion time defers case by case basis. Since you are not yet shipped to basic, i am assuming your N-400 is not based on your military service, right ?

I may be able to offer some insight

My husband joined feb 2017 then went through basic/AIT and completed it in August. He was scheduled to receive his citizenship in October but was postponed due to the new army regulations. He had to go through more security checks and get a form signed by an O-6. Today he will be naturalized.

The USCIS filed officer told us about the form and gave it to us.  It is mandatory to be naturalized because they lo longer except a signature from a lower rank. If you haven't heard about it then I would ask. It took us 2 months to get it signed because my husband's chain of command didn't want to deal with asking a higher up to sign it.

This process took about 7 months to complete for us.

Hello Mohtaq, your response was helpful. I wane ask you something just incase you know or anyone who knows can help. First, on what basis did you renew the GC? Second, for someone who is married before joining the military and has not gone for basic training. Now the temporary greencard is about to expire and he his also divorced. On what basis can he apply to renew greencard pending the outcome of his background check? Anyone who has an idea can also help with suggestions
