If you still have doubts, wait the two months.  Who knows, processing times could speed up?  I’m afraid that if you don’t, you will worry more, actually with all the “what if’s” about filing so soon and only visiting for a short time first.  Then, you can front-load your petition too.  Ask yourself if you will feel calm and confident if you file it now.  The months of waiting and wondering if it meets their standards are tormenting!  The others are right, technically all you need to do is prove you met in the last 2 years.  By the way, if you enjoy reading, check out the book Portrait of a Turkish Family by Irfan Orga.  It is one of my favorite books ever and gives a loving glance into Turkish history around WWI and a family and culture.  It is captivating and written in a way that makes you feel you are there—awesome!

Thank you, I do enjoy reading. I will look into that book, thanks!
I do have doubts. Even if I file in April I will have doubts. Our willingness to be apart pushes us to file now. I have been honest. I am playing the jumping through hoops game exactly how they specify. I think that I will have plenty of "face time" and proof of ongoing relationship with him for his interview. We will have been together a year by the time he gets his interview. I'm not sure what reasons they could have to deny him, but I don't really think they will. In my heart I feel confident, but of course I have doubts.

I've decided to send the package off on Tuesday! Wish us luck!

It seems to have taken a while for you to get your NOA 2... did you have any RFEs? Sorry you are still waiting, but it won't be long now it seems :)

Right now 200 days is a good average for noa2.

Hello! I've been lurking for months and I finally broke down: I need your advice!

i met my fiancé via Facebook early November, 2017. I am American and he is Turkish. We fell in love, of course :)

I just returned from meeting him in person this week. I flew to him and stayed 4 nights with him and just got back Monday the 19th of February.

I have my next ticket purchased (March 30th - April 7th) and even my next flight as well (June 22nd - July 23rd (I think?)).

I filled out the petition and for certified copies of things I would need PRIOR to going to see him this month. So after he officially proposed (the how and when was what was the surprise not the act itself of course) we now would like to file.

i have adequate proof of meeting but I'm concerned about our short relationship. Every week that we wait is another week he won't be here.

My packet is ready and I think it is sound. I have included a log of all the video chats (we video chat every Saturday and Sunday and on any days I have off), I've showed the number of texts between us - complete printout available upon request, intent of marriage which I had him sign while I was there. He has never been married and has no children and no trouble with law.

Please advice me... can I file now? I don't want to wait, but if I must I can endure.

Hi!

I am from Turkey (living in Japan). So not going through the same embassy.

But I will just write my own view.

I would wait for one more visit to tell the truth. You can get everything ready and file it when you come back. My reasons is, this is marriage and I personally don't think 4 days together (even though I understand you two talk a lot) is enough time to decide on a big step, for both of you.

Short relationship itself is not a problem, we see people meeting people and in 10 days they are engaged and less than a month they are filing.... (I personally wouldn't but that's a personal choice)

On the immigration side of the things;

Yes you can get approved whenever you file, however I also saw lots of people get RFE for further evidence. And also because your next visit is right around the corner so I don't think it will hurt your timeline much.

So yes you can file now.

But if you can't endure this 1 month wait now, just remember that noa2 wait is way more to deal with.

Hi! Thank you so much :) I can endure and I will. I would just rather not wait 2 more months if the consensus is "go for it! waiting 6 weeks won''t matter too much!". However, if the overall advice to us was "DON'T DO IT! It will harm your case" then we would not file right now by any means. I know the noa2 wait time can be seven months or longer, and in fact that is why I've decided to go ahead and begin the process now. I guess I will really kick myself later if it turns out that I should have waited for two visits.

I do appreciate your honesty. I do realize 4 days is not enough to really know someone. But I must disagree with you on 4 days not being enough time to decide on a big step. We haven't known each other only 4 days, it has been 4 months. I know that isn't the same as one year, or four, but I truly believe it is long enough to confirm your love for someone. Not only love but commitment. So many people know each other for many years and it doesn't work out. I am very cautious with my heart and I know I have found one of the good ones.
Again, I do thank you for your words and I have taken them to heart, really. As much as I want to hear "Do it! Go for it! It will not be a problem at all!" I value the honesty here. It is why I decided to ask!

Thanks again :)

Fits and foremost is Good luck :)

Thank you for just taking my honesty as honesty and understanding that it is not judging but that I just said something I would say to my best friend hehe

Because we as Turkish people are a romantic and passionate bunch... I know we decide really fast on things.... Oh boy I know.

For the filing, I wouldn't strictly say "don't do it" but I would say, I did see some people getting RFE, I don't think it was specifically because it was on short time, but they just wanted more evidence of bonafide, and seeing each other. So yes having one more flight and some extra boarding passes etc wouldn't hurt. Especially now when they became so strict about RFEs and asking sometimes even unnecessary things.

And I do hope by the time it gets to you the wait will be way less than 7 months, so that's good news. They are getting shorter each month, not too much shorter but still we got to the point of seeing people getting around 175 days.

So also good luck on things getting shorter in time!

I am also wondering how they verify that our fiances are able to marry? If the 129F is all about the petitioner, how do they find out if my fiance is free to marry as well? I have read that he should prepare for that by getting a Non Marriage Certificate. Has anyone had their love's do this?

Naes,

Thank you so much. I wish you luck in this life. Luck and Love! I don't mind waiting for him to come here. What I do mind is that I do not have the money to travel to Turkey every 3 months to visit him! :) Boy oh boy that would change my mindset. From this moment on, though, I will just be thankful for the K-1 process and have faith in it. Truly we are lucky that there is a process in place and it can be done in one year's time. I understand their scrutiny. There are Green Card hunters out there. Immigration is doing their job. I must appreciate it.
Many thanks

At the interview he will be showing the papers we call this "nufus Kaydı örneği" it is similar to the birth certificate but it also has our marital status on it. (Some countries would ask separately for a "no marriage certificate" but normally Turkey doesn't have that)

he is signing the "letter of intent to marry" which in a way shows that he is single and free to marry at the time of petition filing and when he enters US.

Aha! Okay, I see. Our U.S. birth certificates do not show our marital status on them. It is nice that you get both this info on one document.  That is just one of many documents that will be needing translation

I'm actually not sure about it needing a translation... because usually papers in the language of the county where the embassy is based don't need it.

in Turkey we have lots of places that do translation (however they usually notarized these and that costs a ridiculous amount of money... normally these papers are not needed to be notarized.) check other people who is doing it from Turkey.

@Jessica829

do you by chance know about this? Or what are you planning for translations?
