Hi guys! Just an update. I have moved from SF to VA, and did my change of address, and just had my interview on July 13th. It was very fast (27 minutes from walking into the building to leaving the building). The officer was very friendly. I have requested a name change (adding a middle name) so I have to wait for Alexandria court oath ceremony, which will take a few months. They only have them once a month. Still, the hardest part seems to be done :)

@Moonski, for someone else who will need to do this - if you are transferring to new address you can do as soon as you move, it’s not like waiting the 3 months to file in a particular jurisdiction right?

Guys, I’m a little worried. I had my interview today, and got a “decision cannot be made” check box. When I asked her if anything was wrong, she said she just hadn’t had time to review the file properly, that everything looked ok on the face of it and I should get an approval /oath schedule notice in the mail soon, otherwise she’d let me know if I needed to send in anything else. She also said “this is just the way we do it” but I know from here and from overhearing others in the waiting room that many get recommended for approval on the spot. (I did see another person interviewed by the same officer look kind of pensive on the way out. ) I don’t know whether to get worried or not..l mean, if there was an issue or concern with the application, she surely would have told me what it was, right?

Any update @SusieQQQ?

What is the attendance at these ceremonies like? Is the Paramount packed and have any guests been turned away? If you bring 2 guests, is that too much? Does going early help? There is no reservation system, correct?

Asking about the morning ceremony if that makes a difference.

The ceremony is very well organized and an amazing experience. Guests sit in a separate area - upstairs in the balcony. 2 guests is very reasonable, I am sure some had more. They divide the theater into sections - Section 1, 2, 3 etc. From what I observed during my naturalization ceremony, the sections were already preassigned. As you walk into main entrance, they will tell you your section number ( I was in section 3). At first I thought the section was assigned on first come first serve basis but when I entered the theater, I noticed people were seated in a sections 4 or 5 which were further behind. So its random and preassigned. Your seat however in your section is not preassigned. As you walk into the theater, you get seated in your section. I hope that is making sense :) To answer your question, I don't think getting there early will make much of a difference to your seating but probably your guests may get a better seating. I didn't have any guests so I wouldn't know.

Thank you for your detailed response! That's very good to know!

Congrats on being done! I'm looking forward to the big day 😊

Congratulations to you too! They do a great job of making the new citizens feel very welcomed. You will enjoy the ceremony.

And yes- I am finally done and done :) Received my passport in the mail few days back. Waiting for my naturalization certificate to be mailed back.
