My wife got her Oath scheduled yesterday (1 day after the interview). No date yet since the letter doesn't show up yet but she did have a name change. I am still waiting for my status to change.

Just wanted to share that I got my passport the same day I took the oath. 

 

My oath date was Sept 18 (at 10 AM) and I have a flight dated Sept 21. A week before my oath taking, I scheduled an appointment with the passport agency for Sept 18 (at 1:30 PM). So right after the oath ceremony in Oakland, I went straight to SF, had lunch, and went to the SF passport agency on Golden Gate Ave. 

 

Aside from the usual docs needed for passport application - form, photo, naturalization certificate - I also needed to bring proof of immediate travel and extra $60 for expedite fee. 

 

So okay, I got there around 1pm, checked in, and had to wait until around almost 2pm for my number to be called. I provided all documentation and paid for the fees with my debit card. She asked me where I live and told her that I just moved to Lincoln, CA then she asked whether I drove down just for the appointment and I said yes (even though I didn't because I was staying at my friend's house in Oakland) and then she asked when I'm driving back to Lincoln - I said as soon as I got my passport (also not true since I stayed in Oakland until I leave today, 21st). 

 

So, because she's a nice person, she told me that I could get my passport the same day between 3:30-4:00 pm. And I did get my passport that day. 

 

If I was sure that I could get my passport the same day, I would have booked a flight on that day as well. So, now we know that it is possible to get a passport within the day - even in less than 2 hours. I'm just not sure if they print passports in the morning too or just by the end of the day. Because when I got there to pick up my passport, there was a long line (which was not there at 2pm) and I'm guessing that everyone who applied that day was maybe told to come back at 3pm or later. They close at 4pm.

 

I'm so glad everything's over.
