congratulation kinda similar to my interview except he said i will not be able to change your name !!! we don't have judge on house!! and you said she agreed to change it for you this is really strange !!

Cause its just adding her married name and she had her married certificate with her.I don't think that needed a judge's approval.

Congrats @littleitaly I had my oath last week. Still wanted to write a summery but have been too lazy so far 😄

My husband tried to apply for a passport at the oath but even though we were seated at the very end of the theater (we arrived two minutes after 1.15pm) the passport line was onto the street when we left. The reason was that we got our certificate a bit later than other groups (every few dozen people are assigned a person that hands out the certificates). If I were you, I would make an appointment at your nearest post office or the passport agency if you really need it quick (but then you need to travel within 2? weeks). We had an appointment at our post office two days after the oath and did regular service, were told 6-8 weeks. Expedited is 2-3 I think. I would assume that you could do expedited at the oath but can't guarantee. Bottomline: I don't really see the advantage of doing it at the oath unless I am missing something.

Hi @DandelionSF thanks for the heads up. I think I would just apply it at the local post office. But do we need an appointment to apply for a passport? Can’t just walk in?

Congrats again!

@littleitaly Thank you! Our post office was by appointment only. I made it a day after I knew the oath date.

Another recommendation: Don't wait until the last day to print your oath notice 😄 The paper notice was still at the post office since we did mail hold during travel and somehow our mail didn't get delivered on the day before the oath. So on the morning of the oath I wanted to print the online account notice and the site was down (or updated with data, no idea). We had to find the mail truck in our city to get the paper! Pew...

Our oath was with over 1100 folks from 94 countries. Nicely done. Pictures allowed. @SFWolf I thought of you since we were both at the same oath...Couldn't remember your country anymore.

Thank you! After reading your comment, I just made an appointment in the noe valley usps on August 15th. This is getting real and close. Can’t wait. And good tip on printing out the notice ahead of time:)

I guess my husband can go with us but will have to sit in a different section. How long did the entire ceremony take knowing I won’t be waiting to apply for the passport?

Guess next step is to take the certificate and change driver’s license and ssn since I changed my laat name...

@littleitaly

Yeah, suddenly the day came and I couldn't believe it. :)

Your husband cannot sit with you unless he is also being naturalized (which was the case with my husband). You will sit on the first floor and your husband on the second.

The ceremony started at 1.15 pm; I had originally thought these 45 minutes before 2pm were needed to get everyone in. Wrong, it actually started at 1.15pm and we were two minutes late, which was fine. The first 45 minutes were filled with videos, speeches, explanations, music.

The actual oath ceremony (which also included the anthem) started at 2pm I think and lasted until 2.30pm or 2.45pm. We were out at 2.45pm.

You cannot do SSN and driver's license right away if you do passport first since you have to hand in the certificate with the passport application. You only get it back afterwards. Make a copy of the certificate (after you have signed it). Practice your new name before (I also changed my name...)

When exactly is your travel after oath, do you have four full weeks? I think expedite should work for you then, but I am not an expert. I travelled between interview and oath.

Got it. We will plan to arrive around 1:15pm:)

so if we travel within the US after applying for passport(after handed over the certificate), and can’t update the driver license yet, should we still use our old name to book tickets so it aligns with our driver license? My potential international travel is in 5 weeks after 8/14th oath date.

5 weeks should really work from what I can tell. Regular processing times are 6-8 weeks (used to be 4-6) so if you do expedite, you definitely should have it before.

So you would potentially fly within these five weeks nationally after you have applied for the passport? In that case, yes, I would book the ticket on the name your driver's license shows

My ceremony was on Wednesday, I booked a appointment at the passport agency on Thursday, I just showed them my flight itinerary, and paid $205 fee.  I was able to pickup the passport on the next day.
