Took BART as well (to Montgomery; Embarcardero works as well) and walked up Montgomery Street for about ten minutes. I think that's the easiest way to get there. Calculate some time in beforehand, I had a bit of a line outside. The office is different to the one for Biometrics (I think) and I got a bit lost inside;  was suddenly in an elevator to the second floor with folks from outside companies, but that was correct. Then I checked in, took the photograph and waited in the assigned seating area. Didn't have to wait long before they called my name. We started with the civics questions, which were: party of President, branch of government, who wrote Declaration of Independence, when was the Constitution written; the last two I forgot. I had to write "The White House is in Washington, D.C." on an iPad (pen was a bit difficult to write with) and read "Where is the White House".

 

Then the officer went through my file, we updated it a bit, she said I wouldn't have needed the name change done in court (?), we updated the travel dates. Then she went through all 50 questions at the end.

Hi DandelionSF, congrats on your approval. So exiting! one quick question on the name change - what did the officer say/mean by “you wouldn’t needed the name change done in the court?” What did you submit to the officer during the interview for the name change? Thank you!

@littleitaly That name change piece I am still wondering about. I changed my name to my husband's last name (did not do it at marriage), maybe that's easier than any other name change, but it still should be done in court if it hasn't been changed during marriage/on the marriage certificate (at least that's what I thought)? It started that they called me by this new name already in, then she right away said I could have used this name already a long time ago and that I wasted my money with this court ruling. She still made a copy of it, but said she would have approved it anyways. Now I have a middle name that I don't have on the court decree, let's see how this goes. 😉 I hope that won't be a problem for the oath. Then I had to sign something and signed with my old name, and said 'oh, is that a problem?' Where she replied 'it doesn't matter'.

 

She basically didn't want to see anything regarding the name change. She would have gone with the name change request I filled in the application. But I gave the court decree anyways.

 

So bottom-line: Am still puzzled about this. And not sure if everyone would approve it this way.

Online status said oath letter was mail, but the letter haven't upload to the online account document yet.  Hopefully I can get on the July oath

Reg. name change: I believe for people who are doing a name change as part of a marriage, it is supposedly easier in that USCIS is willing to update your name to the new name without requesting a court order. Unclear to me why it would be the case. Mine wasn't just a last name change and when I mentioned I'd be changing my name, the officer was hesitant till I brought up the court order. Oddly enough, I was asked to submit a copy of it even during my passport application which was a bit confusing because my naturalization certificate was in my new name. 

 

Congrats to both of you for getting into the July oath. I just got my passport so I am all done!

@kasd They asked me (I am not working right now) but that wasn't any issue. They basically want to understand you and your history, so they also ask about employment status. So changing jobs isnt any issue unless you are planning to go on welfare (I would assume)
