Done with my interview, I was recommend for approval.

Took Bart to Embarcadro station and walked to 444 Washington St.

My appointment is 9:50am, got there at 9:20am, but they didn't call me until 10:30am, everything done by 11:00am.

The civics test questions are,

- Name of your state representative

- Name of the speaker of the house

- Who lives in America before European came.

- Name one of the state border Canada

- Name one of the state border Mexico

- Who does a US senator represent

The whole process went really well, we went through every questions on the application, updated employment history and trips outside the US.  And finally she recommended me for approval.

I had my interview this morning and got approved.

Took BART as well (to Montgomery; Embarcardero works as well) and walked up Montgomery Street for about ten minutes. I think that's the easiest way to get there. Calculate some time in beforehand, I had a bit of a line outside. The office is different to the one for Biometrics (I think) and I got a bit lost inside;  was suddenly in an elevator to the second floor with folks from outside companies, but that was correct. Then I checked in, took the photograph and waited in the assigned seating area. Didn't have to wait long before they called my name. There are no computers, cell phones, food or drink allowed in the waiting area.

We started with the civics questions, which were: party of President, branch of government, who wrote Declaration of Independence, when was the Constitution written; the last two I forgot. I had to write "The White House is in Washington, D.C." on an iPad (pen was a bit difficult to write with) and read "Where is the White House".

Then the officer went through my file, we updated it a bit, she said I wouldn't have needed the name change done in court (?), we updated the travel dates. Then she went through all 50 questions at the end.

Got naturalized today! I was a bit surprised by how relaxed the ceremony was. The USCIS officer in charge was telling people to close their eyes, relax and take deep breaths (felt like a yoga class lol) and was cracking jokes as she talked. There were 805 people from around ~ 80 countries! Interestingly, I saw the officer who did my interview there as well examining N445 documents so it looks like the .

A few notes:

- If you submitted name change documents during your interview, make sure you bring a copy of those (court order) documents with you alongside your N445. The officer was happy that I had those with me and said that avoided a delay (especially because my Green Card and N445 had differing names)

- I saw someone next to me inform the officer of travel in between the interview and the ceremony. They brought a photo copy of their passport with exit and entry stamps. So again not super particular there.

- If you are applying for a passport, make sure you do so using the DS-11 that you get when you go to the interview. Apparently, it has special writing on it that says that it is valid for use during the oath ceremony. You have to pay only by money order or check if you are applying there.

- Looks like SSNs can be updated only two weeks after the oath. Some folks were saying you could update your SSN at the oath ceremony in other offices. Looks like that is not the case here in Oakland.

Good luck to everyone else! This has been a looooong journey!

Congrats @thedarkelf! Your notes are very helpful.

June 12th Oath Ceremony

I took the BART to Oakland and got off at 19th St. The Bart was convenient, not busy as it was off peak timing and was possibly cheaper than parking. The BART station is literally one minute walk from the Paramount Theatre.

Although there were over 800 new citizens, the queues for entry into and out of the ceremony hall were moving very quickly and it was quite well organized. I had a name change (different name on green card and N445 ) but NO proof of name change was requested. I travelled for 3 weeks between my interview and the oath ceremony and again NO proof of travel was requested.

The Keynote speaker was clearly pro-democrat and anti-Trump. When the POTUS video started there was loud booing from the back. I keep forgetting that this truly is a free country. Even the USCIS officers were smiling and unaffected by the booing. Wow! They really do mean it when they say you have freedom of speech. In many self-professing 'free' countries, true free speech is often a privilege.

The geriatric choir that sang a few patriotic songs was hilariously out of tune and out of sync. But the beautiful solo rendition of the Star Spangled Banner made up for the choir and will remain in my mind forever.

Thank you to all at VJ for your posts that kept me informed and helped me plan my life over the last 5 years. Good luck to everyone in the queue. Your turn will surely come. That's me signing off.

Congrats, @Ashanu! Your notes are very helpful.

Edit: I had to show my Greencard, driver's license, and marriage certificate. No passport. Bring everything you can think of; that marriage certificate wasn't listed  on my notice. And I didn't apply based on marriage nor is my husband a citizen.

And another edit: The estimated completion now says September, wait time 4 months. I hope that this is just standard messaging and the oath will be earlier. Officer today said 30-90 days.
