Hi Everyone,

I am going to the embassy to get  my F1 visa. my parents are green card holders and live and work in the US.  My school wants me to provide evidence either   bank statement to show that they have sufficient funds to support me for one year of studies. While their accounts won't reflect that,, they will be paying for my studies perhaps through a payment plan or their salary. Do I show them their statement anyway or would they have to show that the funds are already there on the account?

You should ask your school. I am guessing they need this to give you the i-20. If by "payment plan" you mean a loan, then they probably need information about whether they qualify for a loan, how much can they take out in a loan, and whether that would cover everything.

I doubt they will be able to pay tuition from their salary unless they are making a ton of money. You should ask your parents that.

In a nutshell, you have to talk to your parents about how they plan to pay. If you do not provide truthful information and something that makes sense financially, they will deny your F1 and they will probably deny any other visa to the US. They'll think that the F1 is an excuse to live in the US with your parents.

And the funds should reflect tuition + living cost. The school will give you information on living costs. My i-20 said how much the living cost was (on average).

I second everything Coco8 just said. I had my bank issue an official bank statement in which they vouched for me having enough personal assets to pay for my studies and living costs (although I had a stipend and a scholarship, the school still wanted this as a backup).
