Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and congratulations to all who successfully expedited their EADs, it must be such a relief!

I am going to do an expedite request and have a question for those who expedited it due to a job offer: what exactly did you tell the USCIS officer on the phone? Did you just say that you would like to expedite based on financial loss, or did you also add that you had a job offer? did you add anything else? Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone have experience in contacting Representatives and Senators in Florida to help with the expedite? Donna Shalala has been no help at all and her office has been unresponsive other than to send me a release to sign weeks ago. I contacted both Florida Senators this week but have only received automated replies.

You only have a few reasons to expedite, and "severe financial loss to yourself" is one of them. Use that reason then you can explain that you have a pending job offer. You can always add more than that, such as this offer is due to expired on this specific date at this specific time (which is something you can work with your future employer on"  and mention examples of the financial losses such as outstanding loans, monthly expenses and others. Just know that the agent will write down whatever you share with them, and a case worker will use that to decide on your case.

Hi everyone! So I still have not heard anything almost 60 days after filing the expedite. I'm going to resubmit all my evidence but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to whether I should add anything to the package. Here's what I included the first time:

  • Cover letter explaining financial loss to me and my employer based on being the only employee in the company globally with a specialized skill
  • USCIS email notice requesting supporting evidence
  • Letter from my employer supporting the expedite request and stating that I would go back to work upon my EAD approval
  • Original job offer letter
  • Benefits statement indicating that both me and my husband were covered under my health insurance.

I was thinking of adding copies of all our monthly expenses as well. Any other thoughts? I know that providing an offer letter has worked for a lot of people but I'm worried that they'll see the original letter from my employer (who is willing to hold my job for however long it takes to get my EAD) and the new offer letter (presumably with a specific start date?) and think that they contradict each other? Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you!!

I think another important thing to mention is the urgency of your case, in addition to proving the losses. I worked with my future employer on setting an expiration date on my offer letter, down to the specific date and time. So maybe I would work at the employer's letter from that angle - whether it is the risk of being let go because they cannot wait too long? Or even set up a date that says by this date your employment will be reconsidered, etc. I don't think having them stating their willingness to hold your job for you however it takes will help since you can then wait the normal wait time and still be okay - no urgency there.

When you talk about expenses, I would break it down to how much your salary is contributing to those costs so you can show the financial losses. Any loans?

Thank you so much for your input! The letter didn't really state "we'll wait however long it takes" that's just what they told me, the letter just said that I'm scheduled to go back to work once my EAD is approved but you're right that there was no hard deadline which probably doesn't help. I'll try to get a second letter of some sort that has a specific deadline.

And thank you for the suggestion on the expenses. My income is about 45% of our household income and then we split pretty much everything 50/50 so I can add that although technically my husband makes enough to cover our expenses. No we don't have any loans besides regular credit card balances

I just told them I had a job offer and needed an expedite based on severe financial loss. That was enough to get the email asking for evidence to be faxed. if you do not hear back from USCIS in 5 days after your initial call, call them again.

FWIW I didn't say anything about extenuating circumstances or expenses. However, it may help to fax everything over a couple of times or to call USCIS to make sure they haven't misplaced your documentation!

Thank you for the input!! I have another question: The recruited called me again and told me I should get the formal job offer on Friday (and once I sign it that will start a background check with the company).

Should I call USCIS today or tomorrow to expedite the EAD instead of waiting until Friday? Is there any reason why I should not make the call now?

Do it now! No reason to wait. It may take USCIS a few days or even longer to send the request for evidence.

Thank you for the encouragement!

I just called to make the request expedite (first time calling USCIS) and somehow it did not go well.

I hope the agent got my email right and I hope she wrote down the fact that I have a job offer. Recalling the conversation she may have just written that I have been unemployed for 5 months, which would screw me over if she does not write that I have a job offer. The agent was the opposite of corteous and just reading the script, when I started asking questions she said that she already submitted the request and could not access it anymore.

If they deny me automatically, when can I request a new expedite?

This whole process will be the end of me. I feel worthless, anxious, frustrated, powerless.

Sorry for the rant. This is my dream job.

Hi! May I ask at what time of the day did you get the notification that the card is mailed? I'm on day 5 of "card is being produced" and the status hasn't changed yet.

Don't worry about it for three to five days, then you'll get a response to your request. If they reject you, you can submit a new request in five days if I remember right. If they didn't reject you, they will be asking for the fax.

You can contact congressman/senator at any time (I mean, as soon as possible), asking them to submit expedite request for you, this is not the same channel as the phone request.
