I actually went to the SSA office the next day lol. I read one too many stories online about people not receiving their card, etc. so I figured I would check the status of the case in person. Turns out, there was nothing created under my name so I went ahead and applied then and there (with I-94, EAD, Birth Certificate and Passport in hand). They gave me a sheet that shows I applied and a guarantee it will come within 2 weeks to give to my employer. Might be worth checking an office to see if your application was indeed forwarded to the SSA so you're not stuck waiting too long!

I hope you receive it soon! Thanks for the update :)

I forgot to mention on my previous post that I visited my local Social Security Administration building on Wednesday (I think...) to see if I could get an update on the progress of my social security card. The officer informed me that it had been mailed to me on the previous Thursday. She was unable to give me any kind of receipt though - she said that she could only issue a receipt BEFORE it was sent. I'm confused why it's taking so long to arrive though! My EAD card was sent 1 day AFTER the social security card. How can it take over a week to receive something in the mail.

How do you verify that they've received your faxed documents?

You can't, and no one will.  The Service Phone number is NOT at the location where your faxed documents go.  There is NO tracking system to update fax-received information at the Field Office you fax to.

Folks...others that are reading this...  you CANNOT find out if the Field Office received your fax, nor will the 800# or even 2nd Tier at the 800# tell you anything about the faxed documents.  Those documents are sent to the fax # at the Field Office processing your case, and they are routed to the Officer handling it.  That Officer does not update any kind of live system where you can see whether or not they received your faxes.  Sorry, but that's how it is at this point.

Hope that finally clears this up.  If you honestly feel the documents didn't get to where they were supposed to go the first time, resend them.  But, don't keep resending them resulting in  you p-ing off your processing Officer.  If you've got the number right, and you included a cover page and case# clearly, presume (and hope) that there are logical folks working at the Field Office, and your fax reached the intended recipient.

Well it is a long time since I sent a fax but seem to recollect the machine produced a confirmation that it had been sent.

Your fax machine will "technologically" confirm that that fax was received by the recipient fax machine.  Yes.  but whether your processing Officer, or your case file, has received the fax, is another story.  There is no tracking of that.  At least...for now.  And yes, I went through this process no only with my EAD/AP Expedite request (requiring a fax), but also my 485 Expedite Request, also requiring a fax follow-up.  Neither were updated accordingly.  Just had to hope for the best!

The original question was how would they know the docs had been received, I am going to assume most people do not use fax.

Shy of snail-mail or being able to hand-deliver them, the instructions received in the response to your Expedite Request is to fax in evidence of your justification for an expedite.  Nowadays, this is true...fax machines are definitely a technology long passed it time.  Tells you how antiquated those back-room processes still are. :)

Hi All,

I just faxed in documents yesterday based on a pending job offer. Anyone recently get their expedite approved? How long should I expect to wait?

It has been anywhere from 10-20 days based on what I've seen. Some people don't even hear anything in 30 days and suddenly their case gets approved. It's been pretty random so far.

We applied for expedite of our I130 on December 12th. For mine they requested additional information to be emailed on December 16th, which we sent that same day and the expedite was accepted on that very day with an email stating we'd hear again within 45 days. For our son's expedite request (also requested that on December 12th) they asked for additional information on December 19th to be sent via fax. I faxed all.on December 20th and never heard from them again.

After calling USCIS about a million times we finally got to speak to a tier2 that actually seemed to care a little last week Wednesday and she escalated the case for our son. Since we hadn't heard anything from them again we called yesterday and USCIS at least confirmed that our son's was in expeditious processing now as well... my 45 day timeline should be over next Monday , I will update on how it goes ;)
