hello everyone,

so recently, I filed removal of conditions feb 16, 2018... i havent received my NOA 1 yet

but coming next week we are going to canada and I'm a bit worried that I might not be allowed to enter the US, my card is expiring in May.

However, I already called USCIS(before booking the flight)and ask a cpb officer (we had a trip outside the US december 2017) if there is going to be a problem and they both said to me that it's not a problem.

I just want to know if any of you here have experienced this and how did you go about this.

thanks

What is your dates of travel, and what is the date your GC expires?

If you will be back in the US before the GC actually expires, I don't see an issue.

A 2 week vacation trip does not upset the clock in any way.

You are allowed to travel during the ROC stage so long as your GC is still valid.

  • 2 months later...

Philippines passport holder, expired green card holder (4/6/2018) ROC pending, received I-797 form. My husband and I need to attend a wedding in Canada coming September 2018 (by car). any idea if I will encounter trouble entering Canada?

We just came back from Mexico for vacation and they let me in the country with my expired green card, so I was hoping Canada will do the same, but for some reason I have the mentality that Canada is more strict with immigration.

I think I-797 (noa1) serves as your green card for the time being.
just dont forget to file the travel visa online for canada. I had trouble with mine so i had to apply on the spot at the airport.

My husband and I are in the same stage, removal of conditions, we have received our letter which states that he can travel and work, although his green card just expired on 5/18/18.he came here originally on a K1 Visa in  11/2015.  I am super nervous that we will run into trouble when re-entering the US. We are attending a wedding in Jamaica in June, staying 1 week. Any replies about whether or not we could run into issues and what they might be and anything we can do to avoid them would be greatly appreciated.

yesterday, (memorial day) we went to Canada, with my expired green card, Philippine passport and extension letter at hand... we just crossed the border to have dinner,  to test if they will allow me enter Canada with my ROC situation...

going to Canada at the border: my husband handed the officer our documents: officer asked if what are we going to do in Windsor, husband answered, we will have dinner and come back right away after. officer checked my passport, green card and read my extension letter, looked at us and said, have a good day: coming back to US: husband handed  our documents: officer asked questions where are you going, what did you do? what do you have with you, fire arms etc., etc.. checked my green card, commented "expired green card huh" read my extension letter, commented "removing conditions hmm" then said: this will take 2 years nowadays I think! I blurted out: I know right! officer said, well you need to be patient, they really have a handful in that section.. have a goodnight:

May 8, 2018: my green card was expired April 6, we traveled to Mexico: at Detroit airport while we were boarding in: officer in the boarding gate saw my green card expired, called another security and they talked about my expired green card.. then they said they think my papers are legit but they said it depends on Mexico immigration officers if they will let me in.. ( I have no idea that I-797 notice is not acceptable in Mexico) anyways, we still tried our luck, and lucky we were because the immigration officer just asked a manager or kind of higher officer about my green card and they let me in.. ( I did not even showed them my extension letter) enjoyed 8 days of sun in Mexico.. going back to U.S: in the immigration, they asked us to scan our passports in kiosk, my husband got through but since my green card was expired, they let me go through the normal line for immigration.. immigration officer asked me what was the problem, I handed him my documents including my extension letter, he kind of just asked the other immigration officer if there wont be any problem with my expired green card and extension letter, and he got an answer "yes, no problem" then he commented, Yes is always a good answer huh!

coming back to U.S wont be a big worry... I think, immigration officers are aware with extension letters..
