That's exactly what I'm thinking too.  He knows the reason he was denied, he just doesn't want to disclose it to her.

So is the issue that on his visitor application he put family friend and you were in fact dating or that he put family friend and you actually met online? The latter has come up in here recently. 

 

Did he put in the visitor visa application that he was single or married? Some people think putting married will mean a visitor visa more likely.

 

If it was the discussion of the denial during interview rather than forgetting to put it on the new application form then it seems like a past lie was forgotten so it was caught out. 

 

However this is all speculation since the reports from OP are contradictory. 

 

OP sit your fiancé down and ask them to go everything that was asked and answered at the interview, literally everything that was said and even expressions of the interviewer.
