Hi everyone in South Africa!  My fiancé and I are almost done in our process, she lives in South Africa and I live in the Seattle Washington area.  It took us 5 months to get our NOA2, so be prepared

11/30/2018 - Case arrived at embassy (NVC says "Ready")

01/17/2019 - Medical exam completed

02/07/2019 - Interview

02/28/2019 - Visa in Hand 

03/01/2019 - Entered USA

Feb 9th: rcvd hard copy of NOA1

Aug. 28th Notified of RFE being mailed

Sept. 1st received hard copy of RFE in the mail

Sept. 4th mailed response to RFE

Sept. 10th received txt that my response to RFE was received

Oct. 10th Received txt that we were approved (NOA2) 30days after RFE response

Oct. 13th received hard copy of NOA2

Oct. 31st case arrived at NVC

Nov 2nd received case number

Nov. 19th Case is "ready" to schedule an interview

Feb. 14th Interview (2019) APPROVED!!!!!!

Congratulations!  I'm so happy for the two of you.  We are going for our interview this month and hope to be joining you in celebration very soon.  I was shocked it took so long for your visa to be returned, and certainly appreciate the warning about expecting a quick turnaround.  Have you set a wedding date and made plans?  Are you going to have a celebration back in South Africa for her family and friends?

Hello everyone! 

 

My fiance applied for his Police Clearance on November 27, 2018 and has yet to receive it back. His interview is on this Thursday. We email the embassy and they said to come, do the interview and then give them the missing paperwork once we have it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

that has happened on occasion... So yes please attend the interview and supply the police clearance later....

Okay. He's just worried about getting stuck in limbo and since he lives in Cape Town he can't easily go and talk to anyone in case it didn't go smoothly. Is it a pretty easy/safe/ reliable thing to do? Sorry... We're just SO close we can taste it and don't want to hit anymore roadblocks lol. Thank you for your help!!

Yes it is safe and reliable because when he is approved they will keep his passport and tell him to supply to police clearance later... The only thing I am not sure about is how he would give the embassy the clearance and he lives in CT.... You might want to look further into that but I know there is someone in this forum that supplied the clearance later unfortunately I Cant remember there name. You can also email the embassy  they are pretty good with responding.
