Oh I didn't realize they weren't all sent the same way. Do you have any idea of how long it takes when it isn't sent electronically?

How did you file your petition? Did you send it via email electronically or via post? That is the only explanation for how NVC receive and send on to Embassy.

We filled electronically via email via a lawyer. Not that a lawyer speed up anything, but we werent sure what to do with the K1 process so we hired one to help prepare our docs. So it makes a difference I guess when filling electronically or mailing via post.

When you check now what does it say? What’s the current state?

For anyone who care to know, you can actually book your interview before you get your packet 3 from the embassy as long as you have filled ds160, so as to secure a date from falling through to another month...

But it’s advisable to do that when the embassy has received your petition, they usually send packet 3 from when they receive it to 3 weeks depending on the slot they have...

Hey Fellow South Africans,

How long is a police clearance valid for ? I saw a K1 instruction page saying a police clearance is valid for 12 months , and someone else says it's valid for 6 months. Can somebody clarify for me 😰

Have you asked NVC or the embassy themselves? Saying in transit for weeks seems to be odd, because if the embassy has received it, it should say ready on CEAC website now

Have spoken to NVC and they said they don't get more info once it leaves them. But yes, our plan is to call the embassy tonight. Have to wait til midnight our time zone for them to open 🙈

@madameMasion A police clearance is only valid in South Africa for 6 months, I had do my police clearance all over again as the one I had previously had expired in June so I had to reapply for a new one, but you can reissue a police clearance before they expire and that changes the expiry date. But after 6 months it’s no good.

Not true... We filed our petition via post office to USCIS last year and NVC sent the approved petition to SA electronically in May... It used less than a day for status to turn ready from in transit. I’d be wary of giving wrong information 😊

Alright. Mine at the moment is 3 months old , but I don't want to take chances I'll just go apply for another one.

Thank you for your help.🌼
