He is still considered a Nigerian Citizen on a work Visa for SA. He'll need police certificates from both?

Yes that is the best way to go about. Police clearance is important from both sides then.

Okay I'll inform him to request both.

By the way thank you very much for assisting and answering my questions, this is all new to me. I fell in love and need him here with me lol

Im sure I completed all the paperwork properly but my fiance did not have 5 years of complete work. Would that cause a denial?

Hi, when his visa going to expire? If it is still valid untill the process reach the embassy I don't think if there is any problem.and about the police clearance as @Vintage girl mentioned he need to have both (Nigeria+SA)and if he ever lived in any other countries for the period of 6months and above from the age of 17,they ll also need the police clearance.

Hi everyone,

I have literally just mailed the petition for my fiance in SA. It states they are to receive it on the 30th of May. I have been reviewing a lot of stories and some the wait was shorter for others. I have a lot of questions regarding what he may or may not need. So far I have noticed the affidavit of support, police report and unabridged birth certificate.

Does he also need the letter of our intent to marry? When should we request the police report? Also he is originally from Nigeria but has been in South Africa for 8 years. How would that work?

he doesnt need a unabridge BC because he was not born there so therefore he doesn't even qualify for that BC that BC is only for folks born is SA. He will need his BC from Nigeria You should have included an intent to marry letter with your original petition that you just mailed.  However u can send one to him before the interview. The intent to marry is just like 2 sentence stating you know you need to marry within 90 days of the beneficiary arrival. There are samples of intent to marry letters here on VJ good luck and welcome to the journey! :)

So birth certificate, taken care of then lol

We both wrote letters of intent to marry in our own words and I included it with the other information they requested in the petition. Airline tickets, passport photos etc... I have been reading a lot of peoples journeys and didn't understand the affidavit of support. Did I need to send that with the packet or is that needed for his interview?

To be safe mail it instead of emailing it, but you still have enough time to do that, i am also from Nigeria but i have been living here for 5 years now and my K1 interview is next month, it was a long ride for me but we almost there :) , tell him he needs to get the Nigerian police certificate, note that the Police clearance from Nigeria expires in 3 months and the South Africa one expires in 6 months so if i were you both i will not be doing any police clearance anytime soon until i have been approved and have my petition sent to NVC by USCIS. Feel free to ask any question/contact me or for him to contact me.

Hey guys

not specifically K1 but a little something may help the $$

when we did our immigrant medical we submitted to medical aid, thought “what can it hurt” and they refunded us about half the cost! I think people don’t normally think of doing this so just an fyi

good luck to all of you through this process...we did a different route but found JNB consulate pretty helpful and responsive.

You get more leeway on expiry from US if don’t live there anymore/haven’t been back since you got the police certificate - so don’t panic too much about the expiry for Nigeria

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-5-collect-supporting-documents.html

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

Okay so mail the AOS after the petition is approved and sent to the local embassy office.

We'll request the police certificates at that moment as well.

Thank you very much for you guys help! I'll update the forum once they have received.

Mail the AOS to your Beneficiary and he will take it with him to the interview.... I also know that you can scan and send it to him they now take copies however it is whatever you feel is best for your situation.

Yes it is correct. But you might want to wait a little bit since they need to show recent dates. Mailing it now might be too early. Maybe mail it when it has been approved because everything goes fast after that.

@Vintage girl @LuFlolady

I don’t understand our US Consulate here in South Africa anymore. They received K1 petition from NVC on 17th of this month (MAY) and on CEAC website it’s been saying READY but up till now no packet 3 has been sent to us, when i call or email they always say they will get back to us with informations needed. Is this always taking long like this?

These guys are something else.
