Good evening/morning to everyone!  I have a question for you all.  My fiancé there in SA will be emigrating next week here to Washington State (hope we get our visa's before next Thursday!) and she has been given some jewelry from her mum that has been in her family for a while and wants her to have.  Does anyone know if she needs to claim this at customs and if so, pay anything on it?

Hi there,

Where in Washington are you guys? I am hoping to fly out to Seattle on the 17th.

Wouter

We will be in Bremerton, just across the water from Seattle, an hour by ferry or hour and a half from Seattle driving.  We should all meet up sometime, that would give Kerren some comfort of home to know someone from her country so close.  What do you think?  Are you going to stay and live in Seattle area or where?

A quick question: Did you all register online to the USCIS website to check the status with your receipt number? I am so curious to see if they have touched our file but do not want to influence the Attorney's profile he created for us. I suppose we just have to wait patiently for the NOA2 to come.  Today it's 113 days since the NOA1.

Yes I registered as soon as I received my case number and I have also registered on the new website as well. We didnt use an attorney and I dont think you registering just to see the status of your case will interfere with the attorney stuff. Day 113 you are getting there slow and steady my friend

I registered on the USCIS website and checked it often, also downloaded the APP (USCIS Case Status by Spinach Mobile LLC, there are a lot to choose from, this should be the first one in your APP store under USCIS case tracker).  I will however tell you that even after I got my NOA2, it still did not update either, the website or the APP, so I held onto the updates that a person in our May filer's VJ blog on here was putting out daily and of course my number would come up, but with no results.  So after about day 135-140 I was calling the USCIS office for status.  On my 3rd time, I got through to a Tier 1 or 2 officer and they told me after 165 days we were approved.  Check and see if there is a "filer" blog for yours, not sure what month you submitted.  We submitted 4 May if I remember the day correctly.

Hold faith, it's a wait, but it will come.  Yes, being on the website does not mess with your lawyer if you have one, we have a lawyer and I was a bit concerned (didn't want to upset him that I was checking status), but it has no bearing on your lawyer unless you put in a inquiry.  I suggest to anyone to call USCIS before doing the inquiry, no matter how unfriendly they can be; keep calling.  Only my suggestion.

Hi Guys,

Does it make a difference which airport you use to enter the states?  I was initially planning Johannesburg - Dubai - Seattle but the flights have become really expensive, so I can go Johannesburg - Dubai - Los Angeles - Seattle and it's much cheaper.

Or is there a rule that says I have to enter in the state that you are getting married in?

Thanks

Wouter

No, it does not matter. We flew Johannesburg to Qatar to Chicago to Minneapolis. Our POE was Chicago and then we flew through to MSP where we’re living.
