To those who had their case at the NVC, did you have to send any documents through to them? Or only once it got to the embassy in JHB?

You dont need to send any docs to the NVC nor the embassy you will take docs with you the embassy during your interview but you wont send anything.....

my fiance visa came to CPT and it was quick after approval about 3 days is when we received notification that the visa was on the way and the pick up was very easy and smooth too!

thank you so much!! I am just a little worried because his interview is on a Thursday morning. Then the website says the consulate is closed on the last Friday of the month (the day after his interview), and then the fourth of July is on the following Wednesday, so I am just hoping things don't get backed up.

Hi all! Went through point of entry yesterday at Chicago O’Hare. Was so quick and easy! Stood in the visa line, at the counter I told the guy I’m coming in on a K1 and I have some documentation (thinking he was going to take me somewhere else for the interview etc). He asked for my documentation, opened it, had a quick look. Asked where we met, how long ago, what did I do, what does he do for a living. Then stamped my passport and off I went! Spent much more time at the carousel waiting for my bags! He also once again confirmed, you have 90 days to get married and file for change of status! Don’t forget that! You have to file in 90 days, not only just get married! Good luck to all!

Welcome Tanya! Glad your trip was uneventful and smooth transition. Enjoy the summer before winter comes to Chicago.

Awesome!!! I have to say the flight is brutal! Especially if you can’t sleep while sitting up (like me) 😂

Good luck and I hope you guys have an awesome time when he arrives! I had the most amazing homecoming with presents and balloons and champagne and snacks and banners and and! And today I could sleep for as long as I wished!

The website may say it is closed, however, we had our interview on May 30th and had to 1) go pick up our passport at the embassy on Friday 31st (last friday of the month) but also had to go back and get an original document they forgot to return to us just before / as they were closing.

They officially close on Fridays at 12:45 and they are there working in the morning, however, it appeared to be almost completely South African office workers there on Friday morning.   They had a question about my case and had to call out to the interviewer for clarification.

Went for my medical examination in Johannesburg, word of advice - give enough time for traffic as it's crazy up there! Other than that, very straightforward.

I have a little bit of a different question than usual, but this pertains to what to do after entering the U.S.. My fiancé is in the military and cannot rent a place until we are married (he's not allowed to live off of base). This means we need to get married as soon as possible so that we can actually get an apartment and not live in a hotel. Do I need to apply for my SSN before getting married? Or can I apply for it once we're married?

Thank you! :)

Hi there! You don’t need a SSN to get married. We applied for our license today. Only a certified copy of your UBC and your passport
