It would have been best to do the O1 with AOS inside the US from F1 --> O1. That way, you'd avoid going to the consulate. The consulate in the UK is pretty bad at dealing with O1s. There are several people on VJ that have been waiting for months for their O1 in the London consulate and some ended up being denied (even though USCIS had approved them).

I did do the F1-> O-1 while in the US. I was in O-1 status while I was there for a couple months, but I travelled to Sweden for work and so I then needed to get the visa stamp before going back.

The Interviewer didn't understand what I did and so that didn't help the situation. I explained the best I could but he said that they couldn't approve my visa as I wasn't on the Embassy system (so someone in the Kentucky Consulate Center hadn't uploaded it properly). That's the only reason we were given for the delay. I've filed for a Freedom of Information Act request to get my Interview file to see if there were other reasons so I know for future applications.

But yes, the London Embassy didn't seem great with my O-1 application. They didn't seem to want to help or look at my application documents even though they emailed and asked me to send them in a couple hours later!

OK. That is odd. I thought they were able to connect to USCIS and see the petition from there. You also have the approved petition from USCIS.

The London consulate seems really inept! I'm so sorry this happened to you.
