Hi,

My sister, who is a US citizen, is sponsoring my parents for green cards.

This has been more than four months since their interview, but the embassy is still processing a document that was initially missing.

The interview letter says that medical tests are valid only for six months.  The initial visa is usually valid for six months since issue day but might be valid for a shorter period if the medical expires.

My question is, if they finally do stamp a visa, will that visa have an end date say a week after it is issued?

If we want to redo the medical so it is updated, what is the procedure?  Do we need to mske an appointment with the doctor before we get the visa, or after we get the visa but before we enter the US within six months so the visa and the medical report are both valid when we enter?  So basically, if the medical report will expire, say within a week after we get our visa, can we fix the situation by making a new docotrs appointment then, or do we need to try to fix it before they finish processing?  If so, what is the procedure?

Thank you

if the medical is expired before visa issued, the embassy will ask for new medical exam

if not ,  be prepared with the financial resourses to get plane tickets before the medical expires (fast)

The visa expiry will be determined by the date of the medical that the consulate has. If they want it later, they should contact the embassy to ask how to get an updated medical to them before they issue the visa. Having a new medical after the visa expiry date is useless, they have to enter by the date on the visa. If there is a very short time to expiry, the embassy would usually contact and ask them if they are ok with a short expiry or if they want to do another medical, but being proactive can only help.  Each embassy will have its own procedure on how to get an updated medical to it, so they need to contact their own embassy.
