that would all depend on the visa you arrived on...

 

If you are married to USC you can apply for citizenship on the 3 year rule

 

if not you must follow the 5 year rule

even though you have IR1 visa, you have to hold the green card for a min of 3 years, hold residency in the USA for min of 3 year prior to filing for naturalization. 

 

based on what you said you arrived April 2016 means you can apply for naturalization April 2019

Since you’re the spouse of a U.S. citizen and will be applying under the 3 year rule, the earliest you’ll be able to apply is sometime in January 2019. That will be 90 days prior to the 3rd anniversary of being a permanent resident as of the “resident since” date on your green card. Also if your child is under 18 when you naturalize, he/she will automatically be a U.S. citizen too according to the child citizenship act. You’ll take your naturalization certificate and apply for your child’s passport. You could also apply for a certificate of citizenship as well for them though that’s expensive.

Also you have to stay married to the us citizen, so if you divorce you then use the 5 year rule.
