Handguns are used in the vast majority of gun crime over rifles. Is that the bigger picture you were referring to?

Hands and feet kill more people every year than assault rifles.

The military ?

Where in the world do you have military on the streets in the USA ? I bet you'd love that, your wet dream being just like Venezuela .

You do know what the second amendment is for right. And that there are many places like my house that are 1.30h away from the nearest police department.

So you are telling me the military will magically show up when I have someone break into my house at night ?

Not everyone lives in the swamp or lala land like you .

LOL if you think having a gun makes you more American than anybody else you're gravely mistaken.

I don't need to have a gun, thats what the military is for, the US didn't have one back in the 18th century. The second amendment is antiquated and outdated.

So if some crack head breaks in my house at 9:am on a Sunday morning, like they did my neighbor, you want me to call the Army?

We have crack heads breaking into houses in the rest of the first world. Still don't need guns, keep on cherry picking.

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Another strawman! Plenty of those around today. So far we've had acid attacks, medical errors, alcohol. Bit surprised I haven't heard the favorites fists, knives and cars.

Just because some people can put together a logical thought process and provide different views that oppose yours does not automatically make it a straw man argument.  You want to talk big picture?  Try and find where gun deaths, just in the USA alone, rank among ALL deaths in the USA annually.  I challenge you to do so.  Is it #1?  #5?  #8?  When you have that number, come back to this post, and tell us about the “big picture”.

Yes exactly like in Germany where you have eastern european thugs using the open borders to go on burglary raids through out the country side especially targeting older people with money. Was one I read about the other day, tied them up and beaten 80 year old couple until they would turn over the key code to the safe with all there wedding jewelry.

Here on the other hand I read. 70 year old vietnam vet defending himself against robbers .

This is the difference. Here you dont have to be a victim you can defend yourself. In europe you are always a victim. No way to protect yourself and your family other then wait for the police. Yea I bet you have the direct dial through number to the US ARMY when you get broken into buddy.

I lived in Europe, e.g. Ireland and was never a victim, ditto for all my friends and family in living throughout the rest of Europe. So sorry you were so frightened of venturing outside without a firearm. Must be truly terrible to live in such fear. Hopefully your fear won't cause you to kill someone, like what seems to happen on a daily basis in good old MERICA.

Yea Ireland. In terms of crime like iceland or switzerland very bad comparison. Is there a way you can drive your car from Bulgaria/Georgia to Ireland without having to cross border control. No, bad comparison move on .

I was referring to my native Germany that does not have border control since its part of the schengen area. UK/Ireland is not.

No one ever broke into my apartment there because I lived in the city in an apartment block . But that doesn't mean its not happening in rural areas. I have had many friends been robbed in Berlin. My sister had a refugee mastrubate right in front of her on the train at night. Id say she got lucky she didnt end up in a dark alley raped and killed like MANY CASES NOW going through the court system. You had one refugee drag a young girl (medical student) 19 years old from her bike, raped and dumped in a river coming home from a party. Just as an example. Even pepper spray is not legal if its not labeled as anti dog spray. You are a victim there, here you are not.

Please maybe use china as a better example. Europe is in turmoil and germany is experiencing unprecedented crime rates never seen before. Dont piss on my leg and tell me its raining .

Talk about cherry picking, look at the bigger picture.

Here is the bigger picture.

Average defensive use of guns in the US per year is 67,000.

 https://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/04/15/defensive-gun-use/

There are 15 million AR15s. There are about 300 million guns in america.

 https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/america-s-rifle-why-so-many-people-love-ar-15-n831171

As a fraction of defensive gun uses the total for AR15s would be roughly 3,350.

Total deaths by AR15 are likely somewhere between 100 - 160 per year.

Most people are not nor will they ever be a victim of a crime that requires protection.  Most people will never nor will they ever be a victim of a house fire, but we still have fire departments just in case.
