Hi everyone,

on March 1st my husband (IR1) and two small kids (IR2) are going in for their medical exams in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. They have their interviews scheduled on March 13th. I was wondering about the TB test for my two little ones. They are 3,5 and 22 months.

1. I know all kids of 2+ years have to get the skin test. Does anyone have experience with alternatives for the skin test? I was allergic to it as a child. I’m worried my kids will be too. (Of course I’ll mention this to the panel physician when we go.)

2. My son will be 22 months old at the time of the medical exam. However, he will more than likely be two years old when we get to move to the US. (His birthday is May 1st.) Do you think they’ll make him take the TB test now? Or will he need to be re-examined or something if he turns 2 before we get to go?

Hoping someone will have some answers/ personal experience with all of this.

Thanks!

Justine

You have probably considered this option already, but do they not qualify for US citizenship? We live (and he was born) in Ireland and our son has both US and Irish passport.

I did all my research on this when I was pregnant with my eldest and sadly I don’t qualify to pass on my citizenship because I haven’t lived in the US long enough after the age of 14. They will, however, obtain citizenship once they enter the US as LPRs, because they qualify for citizenship under the Child Citizenship Act. I appreciate your comment! 😊

How the exam is done depends on the clinic and doctor, so unless someone with young kids went to the same clinic recently, no one can tell.  If you call the clinic, they should be able to give you more details.

I’ll call the clinic as well. Haven’t been able to get a hold of them since I schedules the appointments. I was just hoping to find someone who’s gone through this before. Thanks for your comment though.

Good luck, I hope all will go smoothly.
