My husband's last name is spelled wrong on his AOS receipt notice and also on the Biometrics appt letter. They just left out one letter in his last name. His name is correct on the EAD receipt notice. We called the 1-800 no-help-line and after giving the guy all the information and the correct spelling three times, he told us that he cannot make that change over the phone and we would need to go into the local office to correct the spelling. We waited two weeks for an infopass appt. We went on Monday and after waiting there for over one hour, the officer told us that she can't change the spelling either and we just need to tell the interviewing officer when my husband has his AOS interview. She suggested we take his birth certificate with us to the biometrics appt and assured us we wouldn't have any problems getting the biometrics done.

I've learned not to trust USCIS too much. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Did everything turn out okay or do we need to keep trying to get his name corrected? His biometrics appt is on Feb 9th.

We have the same problem. My wife got her i-485 appointment for AOS and notice of receipt, in which her last name was incorrectly spelled. We called the 1-800 number and they told us they'd change the name. They told us that if the name doesn't get changed within a month (we called on december 30th), then we should set up an infopass apointment ( which we scheduled on Feb 7th because we've gotten no word that they've changed the last name to the correct spelling). We are going to go down there and hopefully get her last name spelled correctly. Her AOS interview is scheduled for March 23, thus it is important we get her name changed. After speaking with the officer on feb 7th, feel free to message me so I can relay some tips. Also, if you have any suggestions for us, please feel free to offer them. Good luck on your journey... this whole AOS process is stressful, but I feel that ultimately... it will be behind us, and we can get on with our normal lives...

9-20-05 -(Married)

12-9-05 -AOS Packet mailed (I-485, I-130, I-765, and I-131)

12-11-05 - AOS packet received

1-3-06 - Biometrics appt. for I-485 and I-765

1-3-06 - My wife's name mispelled on i-485 still (tried to change via phone and still pending... name is spelled correctly on the I-765)

3-23-06 AOS interview scheduled (hopefully we can get the spelling of her last name correct on the I-485 before the interview.... feb 7th is a scheduled appointment to correct the spelling of her name with a local INS officer... anyone have any suggestions here???)

3-23-06... Interview went smoothly, and off to our favorite Japanese restaurant to celebrate the "permanent residence" status which was rightfully granted

5-6-06 Beautiful Church wedding in the Philippines.

10-9-08 Temporary Status of Residents card removed... Janie is a Permanent Resident now

Present = Living out our life together (had a healthy newborn son), and thankful that the aforementioned adustments have been granted.
