What could be a reason for the security check to be delayed? I have spoken to some others here on visajourney who applied in August as well, and some of them don't have their EAD either.

Bad reading of your fingerprints, having a name that overlaps with another individual requiring manual verification, random checks, etc. The main background check via the FBI is a black box...USCIS requests it and then has to wait until the FBI comes back with a result.

The federal government is a mess, that is why some newer applications are being processed before yours. I am in the same situation but in my case waiting for the interview for my N 400 application and then, God knows when, I will have to wait once more for their oath show ceremony. So here we are,  playing their game of giving us uncertain time frames. Legal inmigration is not a priority for politicians in this country so if you have to wait one year with no green card  just wandering around the States without being allowed to work,  they dont care.

Can I ask a related question, please? If I found that I need to send something else to USCIS for my AOS, where should I send it to?

1. Chicago: the place where we sent the initial package

2. Lee's Summit: the place where we sent our response to the RFE for AOS

3. My local office: since as @geowrian mentioned that the case should have been routed to the local office by now (I am 2017 October filer)

you are approved for EAD already? i got RFE too and sent it in the same week but until now no updates and the sucky part is that i cant even track my case in USCIS website

Maybe scheduling an infopass appointment is a good idea.. I prefer to speak to a physical person rather than someone on the phone..

make sure you bring all the info regarding to your case and be assertive, do not leave until you get an acceptable answer.

Live, love, laugh.. and try not to think too much about USCIS

The closest office is too far away. Or else I would have done this long time ago ;/

The I-485 packet is sent to the lockbox then routed to the local field office. The I-765 (and I-131) are sent to the lockbox then routed to the NBC. The I-765 would be approved at the NBC. The I-485 should be sitting at the local field office at this point.

Weird, because my i-485 went to NBC for initial processing before being sent to the field office. Ie it didn't go straight to the field office from the lockbox. I sent my package in December 2016 and according to the correspondence I had with USCIS my i-485 left NBC on May 16 2017.

From what I understand ALL i-485 go to NBC for initial processing, this is where most people receive their RFEs. Once the initial processing is done and they have what they need from you, your case is sent to the field office.

However, if you arrived on a K-1 your case might never even reach the field office as NBC can approve your case then and there. Might take a while for someone to actually get into your case though, but many K-1ers are approved this way.

There's some info here, it says "archived" but it seems like the general process is still the same:

https://www.uscis.gov/archive/blog/2012/06/national-benefits-center-what-it-is-and

"The NBC’s primary mission is to prepare applications for adjudication that require an interview at a USCIS Field Office.  A lot goes into preparing an application including conducting background and security checks and reviewing the evidence an applicant submits to support their eligibility for the benefit.

The NBC’s largest workload is Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, and Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.  These two applications will reach well over a million cases in Fiscal Year 2012.

In the Form I-485 process, an applicant must provide all initial evidence, before the applicant can be scheduled for interview.  If evidence is missing, the NBC will issue a Request for Evidence (RFE).  An RFE places a hold on the I-485 application, as well as the associated applications filed with the I-485 application (for example, Form I-130, Form I-765, Form I-131), until the NBC receives the missing initial evidence."

I did come here on a K1. I just read the email that my congress office sent me the other day. It says that my application is pending at the NBC within normal time..... A few months back though I applied for it to be expedited and the expedite was denied by the field office.

Now I am confused...?
