Yes, waiting until they ask for it is generally the path taken. I have seen a few cases for some forms where somebody would send a document to the service center handling the case and they accepted it, but it's not the norm (i.e. an I-130). I'm not aware of them accepting (or denying) additional documentation for an I-485 without an RFE/RFIE, sorry.

If you're really intent on sending something anyway (keeping in mind you probably won't get it back and they may not see it...so don't send anything you cannot resend later) for AOS, I would assume it would be sent to the local field office with your case.

@Londongirl

Moving would mean they need to transfer the case to a new local office, so it's possible they put it at the bottom of the pile after doing so (keeping in mind the lag between when you made the COA request and when they actually acted upon it). Another thing to check is that they received the new address, have that on file for your case, and that they did not mail anything to you since you moved. It would not be the first case where they mailed something (like an RFE) to an old address.

Good luck...I understand it's very rough until you at least get the EAD.

Thank you @Longdongirl and @geowrian

I just plan to send them a copy of my new job contract to show that we have income now (we used pure assets (cash in our bank) for my AOS). They required 12 months bank statements in their first RFE to us because we only provided the then current bank statement. It was quite complicated because most of our assets were in our foreign bank accounts in foreign cash and the bank statements were only quarterly. We responded their RFE by providing all the statements and an Excel table summary (I am a data professional). Not sure if USCIS can understand it though. Really fear that they deny our case because of the complicated bank statements that they possibly find difficult to understand.

We plan to move for my new job right after I receive my EAD (card in production as of last Friday). Of course I will change my address with USCIS. But I will definitely call them once every two weeks to make sure I do not miss any letter from them. (my local office will be the same.)

If I call USCIS to ask if they have sent any letters to me, can the first person I speak to see that? Or do I need to speak to a tier 2? Can I see on my USCIS account online if any RFEs have been made? Because now it just says that they have received it.......

To be safe, I would request to talk to T2. Many people say that T1 can only see what we can see on their website.

USCIS online is not reliable. It is not uncommon that people have been denied because they did not respond USCIS's RFE or missed their interview, which never showed up in the online accounts.

The letter could be lost in the mail as well. It is not uncommon to see people promptly receive a denial letter when they could not receive their interview or RFE letter.

I spoke to a tier 2 the other day that said he would make a supervisor request about my EAD.... Hopefully he would have told me if there had been a RFE on my case but I will call them again to double check.

Good idea. Every time when I spoke with a T2 officer about my EAD, I always asked him to check my AOS in passing for any issues.

Actually, in USCIS website, it says so as well:

Tier 1 Contact Center Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) offer the first level of live assistance. CSRs may be contract employees. CSRs provide basic case-specific and general non-case-specific information to customers. Information provided by Tier 1 will be limited in verbiage and format by informational response scripts that are created and provided by USCIS.

2. Live Assistance - Tier 1

Live assistance is available at published times for questions not answered by the IVR system.

After interacting with the IVR, the caller has the option to be transferred to a CSR at the Tier 1 Contact Center.

When unable to completely resolve the customer’s inquiry, the CSR may create a Service Request for the USCIS office that is processing the customer’s case, escalate the call to a Tier 2 USCIS officer, or route the call to a supervisor, as appropriate.

3. Live Assistance - Tier 2

If the customer has spoken with the CSR at a Tier 1 Contact Center and has not been able to obtain a resolution, the call may be escalated to a Tier 2 Contact Center if applicable.

Tier 2 is staffed by USCIS officers with access to applicable USCIS systems. USCIS officers may also escalate callers to a supervisor when necessary.

4. Live Assistance - Tier 2 (Supervisor)

•When appropriate, the USCIS officer may escalate the call to a supervisory USCIS officer. Calls will be routed to a supervisor when:

•Customer requests to speak to a supervisor;

•Customer is unusually upset and believes the proposed resolution is improper; or

•The matter requires urgent or expedited assistance by another office to resolve in a timely manner.

A USCIS Tier 2 supervisor has the ability to contact USCIS field offices, asylum offices, service centers, and the National Benefits Center through designated points of contact to address any issues that require immediate action or direct assistance. When appropriate for the situation, a supervisor may:

•Verify the information provided to the customer by the USCIS officer.

•Directly contact the appropriate USCIS office to determine if any additional options may be available to resolve the caller’s issue (if needed).

•Create a Service Request if the issue cannot be resolved by the NCSC.

•Request that the appropriate office take action to alleviate any unnecessary additional wait times, if the caller’s issue resulted from a USCIS error.

I believe you case is routed to Tier 2 supervisor @Londonergirl , so I should be resolved anytime now.

Personally I don’t do service requests through the phone line due to many on here calling and speaking to a tier 2 person and them claiming they submitted one and haven’t. I do it online instead here - https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/Intro.do

OP I was approved for my green card before a bunch of others who applied months before me back in 2014, I adjusted from a k1. The reason was I had an interview three months after applying, I purposely only put in my marriage certificate only and no additional update on docs to show relationship as my office was known for requiring an interview more than doing rfes when that happened plus approval without interview was taking up to a year. I wanted to try and get an interview so that I would get my green card quicker, and subsequently could apply for my citizenship quicker than some other April 2014 AOS from k1 filers.

I did my SR over the phone but when I logged into my USCIS account it said that they were made. It even stated the date and a confirmation number. However, none of my SR requests had been opened.

When you were approved for your GC before everyone else who applied at the same time as you. Were these people in the same field office as you?
As the people I was talking about earlier who applied 2 months after me, they are in the same field office as me. I even had my biometrics before they had even sent in their AOS application. And they are already approved.
I also adjusted from K1. I also sent in the documents that were required, I didn't send photos or anything.

Some were at the same field office yes, I am not talking about just not sending in photos I mean all I sent was the marriage cert, i94, forms required, and affidavit of support. I didn’t add any other proof of marriage such as updated insurance, drivers license, rental agreement, and the like as I figured I would either get an rfe or an interview.

I did just as you..... I didn't send any insurance, drivers license or rental agreements etc either. The only thing I sent was marriage certificate, birth certificate, i94, affidavit of support. Only required documents.

Ok, not that you provided enough information to get the dreaded selected to have interview waiver, so did those who got approved have an interview?

At this point I think it is going to be that your officer is slow going and theirs is quick or cherry picking the easy cases to approve quickly even if it is out of order. It sucks either way.

@Londonergirl - one possible scenario is that your security check is stuck somewhere because why are all your apps (EAD/AP/AOS) all delayed, considering that they are adjudicated separately.

What could be a reason for the security check to be delayed? I have spoken to some others here on visajourney who applied in August as well, and some of them don't have their EAD either.

I don't know...but that seems to be one common reason for ead/ap/aos taking longer.
