Dude, there are myths out there that you would not believe. I know that folks in Ethiopia, for example, think that money sort of grows on trees here. All you gotta do is pick it up. Reality hits hard when they actually arrive here and see that you have to work quite hard to earn money. When they try an tell the family back home how hard life in the US is, nobody wants to hear it. It's utterly ridiculous.

Actually you don't pick it up. The money tree in front of my apartment building is quite tall, so I have to use a ladder to pluck it from the branches. If you send me some cash, I will mail you some money-tree seeds.

I agree with the idea that these are different situations from our own. We were annoyed by the delay in processing, but I just wanted to be with my husband. Neither of us was worrying about where the next meal was coming from or if we could pay the bills. I am sure that many of our spouses choose America over their country for some economic reason and that is why we are all on this website with our spouses coming HERE. But, would they have done anything in their power to come to the US even if they were not going to get married to an American? No. My husband would be in Italy. Totally different situation.

ET is right about the need for a different visa type.

I watched an interview on the tv news last night where an illegal immigrant was quite upset stating she "felt like a criminal" here. Um.................. duh?

i agree..there are things citizens do here that piss me off..but i do not go to the extreme of hating any group..illegal...etc..too much over genralization of a group leads to major problems if you read history...

I know a Filipina who came here on a tourist visa. She was planning to either K-1 or K-3 her boyfriend. After spending some time here she decided she prefers to live in the Philippines. Why? She doesn't like how busy/fast life is here - working 40+ hours per week with only a couple of weeks off for vacation. The fact that she and her boyfriend would have to work full time to live the type of life they want. The idea of having to do her own cleaning and child care. In the Philippines she had a 'helper' (basically a live-in maid/nanny).

Even though I have been through this process with all of it ups and downs, there is a need for immigration reform. It is far too lengthy of a process to come to America. And too costly. We need to make some changes. If you are fleeing Mexico or some other South American or Central American country where there is corruption and it is nearly impossible to feed, house and clothe your family, to come to America where you hear you can make money that easily, if I was in their situation, I would be the first in line to try to survive aka go to America. If you asked these people to go through the process, they would never make it. The forms are in English (are there some in Spanish? I am not sure) and it is a lengthy and complicated process that costs thousands of dollars. If you don't have money to take care of your family, where are you going to get this extra money for the visa process? I think we all need to have some compassion.

Whether you are here illegally or not, the USCIS and the visa process needs an overhaul. Are you happy with the processing times and fees?

oh give me a break! your behind has been living in a glass bubble!

My husband 1st language is not english- as many other applicants. so should there be forms in punjabi or urdu? since I am sponsering my husband- I cant read urdu or punjabi.

FK the compassion! the next time you get an unauthorize charge on your credit card. rember to

think compassion because, thats also how the illegals pay for things. I have seen it!

and last rant of the day..

what needs to be fixed is not KISSING THE illegals azz. .but, how about the G -dubyament.

help those stuck in name check hell! - this just dont effect those from islamic nations but, it also

effects those from all nations. too many people are stuck in this and there should be some reform to help us.

Man, what do you really think!

I think that was Ace's point. You are sponsoring someone and you speak english, so it is easy for you to do it legally. If these people are refuggees (more or less), they don't have a sponsor. They are just trying to survive and better their life. Totally different situation than you, just trying to be with your fiance/spouse. You have the option to choose between your country and your spouses. These people are both from a foreign country and are trying to get to what they have heard is their promised land. Man, you are mean.

I agree with you, I live in Texas around immigrants legal and illegal. It's a catch-22....You say send them all back. Ok then...are YOU going to be the one cleaning office buildings, working at McDonald's, construction, lawn care, etc? How many "good ol boys" would be willing to do that kind of work for 5-8 dollars an hour? Would you all here on this board do that?? That's what there is to think about. Are you prepared to pay 5 dollars for a head of lettuce because the Americans won't pick vegetables for less than 15 bucks an hour? Dollar value menu goes up to 4 dollar value menu? How about the cell phone service that you pay 49.99 a month for? Will 100.00 a month be OK for that? I mean, the building cleaners for all those (insert wireless company here) facilities won't work for less than 12 dollars an hour. Imagine YOUR wages don't go up but every service and product goes up by 25-50%? That's the reality if all of you "SEND THEM BACK" folks get your way. I for one, don't want to mow grass, I gave up working at Mickey D's after high school and I sure as heck am not into construction So...... I'm not saying open the doors and let the floodgates open. But there does need to be some kind of reform/assistance for those who have been here for years working and living, and some kind of worker program. And the taxes? So many undocumented workers are using SSN that may be fake or whatever, but they are paying taxes into the government and never getting the refund that they would probably be due if they were legal, so that money goes OUR government's pot. How many of you have traveled to Cancun or Cozumel? Are your customs forms in English? Are your hotel and tour documents in English? I bet if they were in Spanish many would throw a royal fit. One should definitely learn English in order to be a citizen, but this nation is a melting pot. That is part of what makes this country special. You can say wait in line and take your turn,,,but the problem for them is there was no line to begin with. Believe me, if there was a "Get a visa so you can come work a low wage job, be exploited but at the same time ensure a decent life for your family" Line.... THey would have gladly been in it, and their processes would have been just as slow or slower than ours.
