Why not wait until you're back from your trip before mailing your documents? That way, you'll skip the stress of missing your biometrics appointment. Filing in March is still early.

No need to get the extension letter before you travel since your GC expires in May.

Missing the biometrics usually means a denial, you will need to reapply.  Why don't you send your documents AFTER your trip and save yourself all the trouble?

You do not have to file at 90 days before.  Your 90 filing window opens at 90 days prior.  You can file anytime up until the day you card expires

If your card expires on May 18, the earliest you can file is February 17 (90 days before) and the latest you can file is May 17 (which I do not recommend because it is so close to the expiration date).  Filing in March, after your vacations, is perfectly fine and will avoid complications like missing correspondence from USCIS, or your biometrics appointment.

You can but I don't see the rush that two weeks will make.  You will continue to be a legal resident regardless

it will probably be fine to mail it on March 4 - it won't get processed until a few days after it gets there and it's unlikely they'll have a biometrics appointment scheduled right away. So if you want to get it out, I think you're probably safe to do so.

But then again, 2 weeks later still won't really make a difference. If they ask you if you've sent in the renewal yet (which is highly unlikely), you can tell them the truth - you have the package ready to go but didn't want to risk getting scheduled for a biometrics appt in your absence. It's all perfectly legal!
