Travel to PH: ticket name matches EAD, not passport

I am currently in the Philippines on a month-long vacation with my husband to see family and friends. I traveled with my tickets under my new married last name but my passport is still in my maiden name, because I had wrongly thought that I had to match my ticket name with my EAD card (NOT my passport) to be able to re-enter the US... Luckily, the customs at the SF airport were understanding and let me board the plane despite my passport name not matching my ticket name, especially since I had my CA driver's license and EAD both in my married name proving my identity. I'm now worried that I won't be as lucky at the Philippine airport (NAIA) when we leave this coming weekend, however... Would you advise that I change my ticket name and incur the fees for doing so, or just travel with mismatching passport & ticket last names? :/ Has anyone else gone through my predicament before?

I will be calling EVA Airlines tomorrow to check with them what would be the best to do... but just wanted to hear people's experiences on this forum as well...

I accidentally did that for my wife as well and PAL would not let her fly unless they changed the ticket to her maiden name. This was for domestic and international flights in the Philippines.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Not surprised

Me neither.  You know how the Philippines is:

People are conditions to "Fall In Line",  Never Question Authority (Even if they are wearing a security guards outfit), and accept it without question.

I was eating at a Greenwich Pizza and wanted a plain cheese pizza, I was told that wasn't on the menu and thus I couldn't order it. I said order a pepperoni pizza and don't put the pepperonis on the pizza.

I was told "Sir we can not fulfill your request".

Do you have access to your marriage certificate as that will help. We always recommend to book the name on your ticket to match your passport. Bring your marriage certificate with you and on that rare case you need to prove your name you will both.

I too recommend that you call EVA airlines but it's really immigration that will ultimately say yea or nae.

I suspect there will be no issue getting back into the USA,  They may have to go thru secondary or tell a CBP supervisor it was an paperwork issue, but in the end I don't see an issue getting back into the USA.

The issue I see is being allowed to board the plane to get to the USA.

You are hoping to dodge a bullet for sure.  But there is a change you will fine, do take note of the excerpt below from the CBP website    .. and have copies of your marriage certificate.

(It is not that easy to change the name on your ticket.   Did you purchase the ticket directly through EVA or a secondary ticket agent (cheaptickets, expedia or such)?  You will have to go through the company where you purchased the ticket.)

Before Your Trip

Booking Your Tickets

Match Names on Tickets and Documents

Purchase your travel tickets in the exact same name that appears on your passport or official ID. Ensure that all travel documents match that name precisely.

If the names don't match, your travel carrier or the Transportation Security Administration may require additional documents to verify your identity before allowing you to board.

https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-trip    (it might be a good idea to print out the info on this page relating to name in travel tickets, and carry it with you)

 EVA is the front line because they can be the one held liable (its always about money with companies), BUT she will need to call the company where the ticket was purchased.

.. yes CBP is the bulldog to get past when returning..

Because they need to know who is coming into the country and who is leaving. The airline as well.  Simple math. ;)

When ID's don't match the ticket their should and will always be a red flag until confirmed.  Who is to say you're Susan Doe or Susan James when your ID says Susan Doe, your passport says Susan James and the ticket says Susan Doe?  After 911, everything changed across the world not just for the US that the airline ticket should be in the passport holders name. If proof is needed elsewhere for the married name then they will require proof and the marriage certificate will and should suffice.

Let's see how this panes out for the OP

OK. You mean Homeland Security and not specifically Immigration...  She has an ID to match (EAD/AP).  Tickets need to be in the name of a valid ID, I agree for international travel this is typically the passport .....

In the USA it is CBP .. in the Philippines I believe it is immigration upon entry .. requirement is pretty much the same .. and I am betting she will have more fun than the average bear.

Hi everyone, thank you for your input. I just called both Expedia (which is the 3rd party I booked with) and EVA Air. Expedia was not able to help much since my trip has already been partially completed, and forwarded me to EVA Air. I called EVA Air's local Philippine number and was told that they can just note my maiden name in my booking, so that the EVA Air check-in counter will definitely allow me to board the plane to the US (as long as I have other valid IDs in my married name - and I do have my DL, EAD/AP card, and my marriage cert with me). She said that the only problem I may encounter would be at SF Airport, at Immigrations. But I'm assuming I should be fine once I enter the USA since my EAD is in my married name anyway? And I can show my marriage certificate to back it up also?

Then you should be fine for getting on the airplane.

There is still CBP at POE  .. but as I liked earlier, they may not have issue either IF you have adequate additional documents.  And the EAD and marriage certificate should do fine with that.
