So it means the I-134 supporting documents (evidence) can be copies, no need of originals?

If the signature to the form doesn't need to be, then the evidence certainly doesn't need to be.

How do you provide an original of a tax return when the original is on file with the IRS?  The best you can do is provide a copy....

YMMV

Right, the thing I wasn't sure about was the work and bank statements, because they provided a scanned signed letter to be printed and not the original. But then I'll just print them!

Again, everything can be a legible photocopy or printout.  Most banks are paperless nowadays anyway.  The best thing you can get is a .pdf of your statement

Hi there!

So 1 week ago I received and email from NVC informing that NVC sent our case to the consulate in Rio de Janeiro and that it has approved the request for expedited processing of the k1 visa. It said that the consulate will send an email to schedule the interview.  So I'm waiting for the consulate email with the information and instructions to schedule the interview.

While waiting for the email, we're preparing the documents. I took a look at the consulate website and once we receive the instructions email we can check if there's any document missing or anything else to add.

Question 1: Have you already received the instructions email with the list of all the documents to be provided at the interview in Rio (copies and originals) and if so, would you mind sharing the list of requested documents?

Question 2: My fiance (petitioner) filled in the I-134 form (Affidavit), signed and dated it. But as for the documents that have to go with it (statement from work and statement from the bank), do they have to be originals or are copies ok? On the form instructions it says copies but I've heard that most people bring the originals. My fiance sent me the copies because his work emailed him the statement...so we don't have an original for that, would it be ok for the interview??

The main documents to be provided at the consulate:

I am also going to submit a copy of the appointment confirmation page just to be safe.  Of course, I have a lot of pages of proof of relationships, such as chat logs, emails, etc.  so bring that as well.

Me personally, I feel more comfortable providing the I-134 with an actual signature to the consulate.  I've heard different people say different answers, like yes it has to be an original signature, or no it can be a copy, so since I will be attending my fiance's interview anyways, I am providing an original signature.  I am going to be a copy of my bank statements, W=2's, and pay stubs.  Hope this helps.

Dying to know the answer to this. I've searched everywhere online and I cannot confirm if my fiancee can fill out I-134, sign it, and scan and email it to me, or if he needs to fill it out, sign it and send it by mail to me.

I don't recall where I saw it, perhaps in the I-134 instructions - but it states that everything must be originals OR original copies.  It is difficult to tell the difference between an original copy and a copy of a copy, but basically a copy of an original is fine.  Just remember anytime you are filling out paperwork related to a legal matter always use blue or black ink only.  Original copies should be fine - check the I-134 instructions as I believe it is stated there for confirmation.  Good luck!

I actually found this on the US Dept of State website, so it appears it does not have to be a wet signature:

Ink Signature No Longer Required on Affidavits of Support (12/28/2016)

December 28, 2016

As part of our ongoing efforts to be responsive to customer needs in immigrant visa processing, the Department of State is pleased to announce that original or “wet ink” signatures are no longer required on submitted Forms I-864, Affidavit of Support. This also applies to the I-864A, I-864W, and I-864EZ.

Starting January 1, 2017, the National Visa Center (NVC) will accept photocopies and scanned versions of signed Forms I-864 and associated documents. Please note that the form must still be signed; typed names and electronic signatures will not be accepted. NVC will only ask petitioners to submit an amended Form I-864 to NVC if the financial sponsor’s name and personal information are missing; there is no signature at all; or if there are missing pages.

Original and copy of birth certificate: only the beneficiary's birth certificate, right?

Yes, I agree, I also feel more confortable with an actual signature (wet) on the I-134. And that's what we did. My concern was regarding the letter from work stating the petitioner works there etc, it's signed by his boss but we don't have the original, only the copy.

So I saw you guys are waiting for the interview at Rio de Janeiro Consulate (wish you the best!). After you received the email from NVC with the number and information that the process was sent to the consulate, and that it would contact you in order to schedule the interview: how is that contact, does the consulate send an email to the beneficiary allowing the beneficiary to schedule the interview? Or is this authorization sent by regular mail? How long did it take for you to receive that after receiving the NVC notification?

So I received the NVC email with the RDJ number on May 04. No contact (letter, email, etc) from the Rio de Janeiro Consulate so far. Tomorrow turns 14 days of waiting. I wonder if that's normal?

We have decided for the original I-134, with the wet signature, just to be safe. But the documents that go with it, all copies.

Sorry for the delay in replying to you.  Yes, only the benficiaires birth certificate is required.  If you tured in a copy of your birth certificate with your application, they will still have it with them.

It took about 3 weeks to get the official email or "letter" from the consulate after we have received the NVC email.  I emailed to consulate asking for a status of the letter, and the next day they emailed me with the instructions.  Feel free to email them if you'd like, and they will be emailing you soon after that.
