I agree with above...... His answers should be truthful.......no different whether you have begun a K-1 or a CR-1.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I'm so nervous that if we do this something will get screwed up and they won't allow the green card.  I feel the k1 visa is the safer option.  I'm just so confused.

Safer?  in what way would a K-1 be safer than a CR-1?

I don't know,  I'm just confused.  The plan we had was to apply for the k1 in June and when he got here next year we would do a courthouse wedding as to get married within the 90 days then have a big wedding in June 2019. Does the cr1 really take over a year? I'm planning to go back to school in the fall of 2019, so I will stop working.  I feel that I will have to wait to go back to meet the income requirement of the cr1.

To be honest, a CR-1 is safer for the immigrant in several ways.  No worries about denial of AOS, no worries about being out of status, no worries about not being able to leave the US for 4 months after marriage, no worries about having to wait 4 months to legally work......

Visiting the US during the CR-1 process is no less "safe" than visiting the US during the K-1 process..

The wait time between the K-1 and CR-1 used to be significant....not but a couple months now....and it seems that K-1 times are still getting longer.

My fiancé ran into troubles at the border despite showing ties...hence why we ended up going the  K1 option...wouldn’t have otherwise.

You went K-1 vs CR-1? or you went K-1 instead of just entering as a visitor?

He can’t get in to visit because they suspected he was trying to immigrate...and we didn’t think at the time that K1 was going to take this long

Does he have a good job in Canada? Rent? People who get in trouble is because they are visiting for 3 months going to Canada for a week and coming back on another 3 month visit.

People get married in the USA all the time. Or go there and do a courthouse marriage no one needs to know! 99% of people don't know how visas and processes work.

Again he can come here on a k1 but he won't be able tobleave or work for 6 months!!

I just finished my K1 process and I’m from Canada. Feel free to message me if you have questions along the way!

Hello,

How long did your process take? Where did you have to go for your medical exam? He is from Alberta and so he has to go to Surrey. We really want to do the K1 and we have discussed that we will have enough saved so that he won't need to work for 3 or 4 months.  He is a mechanic and makes a good living. Thank you in advance!

Hi! My process was pretty quick (you can view my timeline on my profile). I’m originally from Alberta as well. I found it easier to go to Montreal a week before my interview and get the medical done there, because it was significantly cheaper than planning a separate trip to surrey.
