My boyfriend and I got our NOA1 for our k1 yesterday! (sent Feb 7th) I'm taking it as a good karmic sign that we got it on Valentine's Day. 1f602.png😂 I know we're a long way off from finishing the process but I've been really curious about the POE part.

My boyfriend and I are currently living together in the UK and I'm just curious how many others flew back with their Fiance's with visa in hand? Did you go through the "non -USC" line with them, if yes, how did it go?

Just wanting to hear some personal stories from people who have been through it already.
I know I'm getting ahead of myself but thinking about the end of the process makes it a bit less stressful.

Just as an edit since it's usually brought up when I say we live together in his country... we did look into doing a CR1 and decided that the k1 was a better fit for us and our personal timeline. We have a lot of support from my family and his so him needing to work right away wasn't a deal-breaker, and he's planning on using the time off to explore what he wants to do before going back to school in the US. :D

If you are both living together in the UK, why didnt you get married and do DCF? It would take only 2-3 months there! A K1 will take 6-7 months just to get your NOA2. For countries with DCF and both people are living together it makes much more sense to just have a quick legal marriage and then have a big "wedding" wherever you want later.

Not a CR1.

If you live together in the same country you can do Direct Consular Filing. Not all countries have it, but the UK does. If you get married in the UK you can file DCF - it takes only 2-3 months and you have a visa and you can come back to the US right away with the visa. Its definitely much faster than the CR1 or the K1. Its much superior to any of them. Most people would kill for this option. Its much cheaper too. No adjusting status, he can still take the time off to decide anything or work or go to school, travel - its definitely the best option.

Well we're not really in a hurry since I can't leave the UK until after September, plus there are some personal reasons we're putting off getting married, even if it was just a courthouse thing I couldn't do it without my parents there. I'm sure it's a great option but it just wasn't a good choice for us personally. We're already living together and I have to finish my master's so getting the visa in 2-3 months wouldn't really do us any good.

Thank you for the suggestion though, I'm sure it's a great option for some couples. ^_^

We were together at K1 POE and went through the Resident line. Then I was shown to the secondary room where they process the visa paperwork, while she went down to collect our luggage. We agreed to meet up at the bottom of the escalator near my processing room.  Then customs line with the bags to turn in that  form and out to meet our ride.  (Each airport is set up differently and you generally can ask an attendant what immigration desk line you should use. Most should let you remain together.)

Other things that might interest you that she spoke to CBP about ahead of our trip. We had six bags together. They can be mixed, i.e. the American's bags can be mostly full of the immigrant's belongings. Fill out one "family" customs form, not two separate ones. Do not list or value the immigrants items that "will remain in the US". Write "household goods" with no value on the form. If you have new items like gifts or duty free or 360 tea bags, then list and value those because they are not the immigrant's household goods and are regular items you would typically put on a customs form when you return from abroad.
