I agree, not jumping to conclusions, just speculating. Since Columbine though the standard training has been rapid response to engage an active shooter as soon as possible. If they followed that protocol, it would fit what the sheriff said, that the first officer should have engaged.

Often the resource officer is outside at the beginning and end of the day or at specific times. Many schools here, the officer becomes a parking lot or traffic monitor. It's possible the shooter, being a former student, was aware of that also.

We should remember though that the fire alarm was going off at the time I believe.  Not sure how this factors into the actions by the deputies.  Monday morning QBing is always perfect, but do we know what these guys knew at the time?  I am still curious as to what would have happened if any teacher or student were killed by the deputies had they gone in gun ho.  I know at least one student was saying he was dressed similarly to the shooter, he may have ended up dead.

I would like to congratulate all of us for what may be a CEHST first.  1,021 posts on a very emotional and volatile subject, and not one thread ban was handed out.  Very nice.

Just came across this today.  It seems the secret service has already done the rundown on school shootings many years ago.  If only we would learn from their findings and do more to prevent such tragedies.

[T-B. furiously re-evaluates self and resolves to do far, far better should similar opportunities arise]

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Does the MLS have a Gun Course element now?

Delta have now cut ties with the NRA along with many other companies.

Nothing more than a PR stunt, an attempt to gain loyalty with their flying base.  And I expect it to amount to about as much as their “human trafficking is a crime” slogans.

Trouble is, the NRA doesn’t sell guns, and hasn’t been responsible for killing anyone to date.  Some people just want to feel good and have something to lash out at.

Remember when I replied to this just a few days ago?  Have you seen how there have been a total of 13 times a NRA member has used their “discount” to fly Delta?

Yeah.  Big deal.  Just a political PR stunt on Delta’s part.  And look... NRA membership has gone up!

And every action has a reaction (consequence).  Now GA has voted to remove a $50 million tax break on jet fuel for Delta.  I wonder how the Delta management team is feeling about that wasted move against the NRA?

Not hard to imagine how Delta will recoup the cost of jet fuel.

Speaking of reactions and consequences, some experts saying this could hurt Georgia's attempts to lure Amazon. That would be 50000 jobs lost for 13 NRA member discounts and some jet fuel. Gotta love this new reality TV.

Yeah, it's all pretty silly if you ask me.  And have you seen where other cities are offering Delta a new home if they want to pull out of ATL?  Too funny.  As if Delta would ever waste that much money.  (Though their management CAN be very vindictive if pushed too hard).

How did they have a specific tax break for just one company anyway.

I’m not privy to the rules, but perhaps it was written so that X amount of revenue for the city, or X amount of fuel purchased, qualified for the discount.  I wonder if the loss of discount will really stick, or will it be quietly reinstated in another resolution down the road?
