Some people say they aren’t against gun ownership but want to ban assault rifles to cut down on gun deaths. If you really want to cut down on gun deaths, why wouldn’t you go after the ones that are used most frequently?

ban sales to registered democrats?  :P

I know what I said...typed.

I don't know how to enforce a private seller to do that. But isn't it strange that if you buy at a store you need to do a background check? If you buy trough a private seller, you don't.

I'm not talking about black market here, since this is legal ( except in Washington as I just learned today) but I like to think logical...and this doesn't seem logical to me at all.

More states than just WA require it.  And this is nothing new.  Even in states that don’t require a FFL to transfer from a private seller, there exists a responsibility on the seller’s part to ensure that they are selling to a legal buyer.  If not, then it becomes a straw sale (Jim will love this part).  That is the reason that I personally won’t sell a gun to anyone I don’t know and trust.  And I require a bill of sale with their name, address, and state DL info at a minimum.

The issue is, even if it is REQUIRED by the state to do a BG check, or sell thru a FFL, how do you enforce that?  People lie about how much they paid for a used car to avoid taxes, they lie about their age to buy things, and there are people out there who just don’t care about the law and will sell to just about anybody.  Just as there are people out there who care nothing for human life, and will get a gun by any means and use it to harm others.  As has been stated over and over again, it all comes down to the nature of the person.  Some of us woould never harm another intentionally.  Some would do it if they needed.  And some just do it either out of joy or lack of caring.

It’s awesome that people like you and smile and others care enough to want to make a difference.  We just have to come up with the HOW to do it effectively.

Something I was thinking about today, when a person buys a gun at the gun store, they run his background. But when that person sells his guns to someone else, there is no background check involved.

That would be something that could be changed, that guns can only be sold through a registered store who does background checks.

Just a thought I wanted to share with you"all ^_^

In my state they are called private party transfers. Both parties meet at an FFL and dros the firearm. There isa10 day wait and then the buyer picks it up. The majority of gun owners follow this rule.

FFLs are mandated to do the transfer for 35.00

Am reminded of the intense, immortal words of former Surgeonette General Joycelyn Elders:  "We need safer guns and safer bullets!"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I always love this graphic, because the agenda is obvious when they leave out 7105 murders by handgun, 3077 murders by firearm - type not stated,  262 murders by shotguns, and 162 murders by firearms - other type.

I also wonder why they include statistics for cigarettes as a cause of death but leave out the suicide statistics related to firearms. Any good argument should be able to stand when comparing apples to apples and support itself without resorting to tactics like you see here.

Isn't the agenda pretty obvious with everyone debating political issues?

But the argument being made is semiauto rifles and the deaths that occur at their hands not hand guns.

We were also not comparing deaths related to cigarette smoke to murders committed by semi automatic rifles. I don't see the relevance in a topic about a shooting at a high school. The graphic is intentionally misleading, and it pops up here over and over here at VJ. Then people wonder why they are accused of red herrings.

Perhaps, but more so if one cherry picks the data favorable to their argument and leaves out the rest.

I think that is what CNN did for their anti-gun pep rally as discussed in the other thread.
