Is the mini - 14 a "weapon of war"?

I'm trying to understand how people are defining this. My view is that it is not. Its lineage goes back to an earlier design by John Garand which was definitely a weapon of war. However the mini - 14 is by all definition a "ranch gun".

I'll give another example. The majority of bolt action hunting rifles use the mauser action. Mausers are clearly "weapons of war" used in combat by the Boers, Germans of WW1 and 2 and many other nations.

Wasn't JFK killed with s bolt action rifle

The fact it can cause a lot of damage in a very short space of time. It's not rocket science. Why do you think most of these mass shooters don't use a 9mm or a shot gun?

Becuse they saw the ar on tv. A shotgun with a couple of glocks could be more deadly

Something I was thinking about today, when a person buys a gun at the gun store, they run his background. But when that person sells his guns to someone else, there is no background check involved.

That would be something that could be changed, that guns can only be sold through a registered store who does background checks.

Just a thought I wanted to share with you"all ^_^

I consider that a serious problem actually, it makes the whole entire background check look like a joke.

Selling and or exchanging to/with other people happens frequently. It's not illegal, but it's kinda weird if you think about it.

Washington state has made that a law and it has had a negligible impact on gun crime there.

Think about what you just said.... how will you force a private seller to sell a gun thru an FFL? (Licensed dealer)

In reality, even a private seller is supposed to do what you suggest, but it varies by state:  http://consumer.findlaw.com/consumer-transactions/private-gun-sale-laws-by-state.html

Great idea, hard to enforce.  Just as it is hard to enforce who sells cocaine on the street, and thru whom.

Pit bulls make up 6% of the dog population yet are responsible for 70% of dog related fatalities.

Don't say that to a pitbull owner, they will say you don't know what you talking about.

I know what I said...typed.

I don't know how to enforce a private seller to do that. But isn't it strange that if you buy at a store you need to do a background check? If you buy trough a private seller, you don't.

I'm not talking about black market here, since this is legal ( except in Washington as I just learned today) but I like to think logical...and this doesn't seem logical to me at all.
