I do not think banning knives, or as I prefer to call the Assault Knives, requires a constitutional amendment so much easier to do.

Perhaps start there are see how it goes?

And knives aren't dangerous people using knives are dangerous.....Also how am I going to carve a turkey or cut up my medium rare steak? Define Assault knife

I will have to admit writing this, I for one have had stitches a time or two from some of our knives and cooking, so maybe I should regulate the use of knives and have proper education on them. Hahaha.:jest: But this is more of an issue of self harm. Bahaha

Is the mini - 14 a "weapon of war"?

I'm trying to understand how people are defining this. My view is that it is not. Its lineage goes back to an earlier design by John Garand which was definitely a weapon of war. However the mini - 14 is by all definition a "ranch gun".

I'll give another example. The majority of bolt action hunting rifles use the mauser action. Mausers are clearly "weapons of war" used in combat by the Boers, Germans of WW1 and 2 and many other nations.

Ok, that is better all around.  I think it will be impossible to identify near enough people with ill intent prior to them getting a gun to ever make a difference.

So now we have to restrict access without violating the 2nd amendment.  Therein lies the rub.

This kid gave warning signs that were ignored.  He COULD have been stopped, but multiple failures allowed him to succeed.

The Vegas dude, he would never have shown up on anyone’s radar.  Unless I am forgetting some detail about Vegas, how could we have prevented that without going against the 2nd?

so the conversation is over. restricting access to guns, making them difficult to get, is the goal. you don't think that's possible, other countries have no problem doing it.

Just heard breaking: that the armed officer who was assigned to the high school, responded to the shooting, knew there was ongoing gunfire.... and decided to stand outside the building for somewhere between 4 and 6 minutes while the kids were being murdered... twiddling his thumbs or something.

He apparently has quit, as he was suspended without pay pending an IA investigation. People's heads going to roll.

There are plenty of food options that do need a knife, cornflakes? You do not need a knife to eat an apple. People lived without knives.

An assault knife is something that could be used to assault a person or thing.

Exactly, people have access to knives there is no register no tests no insurance nothing. I ordered one of Amazon, no checks they just posted it to me,.

Other countries don't have a 2nd amendment, we do.

Let's for a moment say we do some of the things proposed here.  Ban all AR-15s for one.  Let's go one farther, ban all semi-auto weapons.  So the gun nuts, as you so fondly refer to us who appreciate our current freedom can still own guns, but your desire to lower the rate of fire is appeased too.

What then?  What will happen in a month?  Six months, maybe a year?  Do you really think it will make a difference?  The mental idiots may find it harder to purchase a new gun, but what about the 300 million guns already on the streets today?  How long will it take to make a dent in the killings?

Do you think a person intent on killing will opt instead for a bolt-action rifle with a few magazines to take out innocent victims?  Or will they just stop because without semi-auto weapons it's simply too much work?

That's just miserably sad, on several levels.

The AR-15 was never intended for civilian use. You can quote all the gun features you want, I'm using common sense, the AR-15 design and use was for war not for the average Joe.

What specifically in the design makes it for war? The reason I ask is that most firearms that come to market do so with both the civilian and military markets in mind.

#fakenews, once again.  It's obvious you know nothing factual about guns, other than some use them to do harm.  You really should stop trying to "teach" us.

I'm gonna try once more, even though several here have tried to educate you.  This link has a lot of good and ACCURATE info that may assist those who have never fired nor owned a weapon before:

The one thing I will agree with Jim on is that the AR 15 designers are quoted as saying they didn't expect it would sell on the civilian market. Sullivan is quoted as saying he didn't think it would sell. He is also quoted as saying he is happy his design did do well on the market however.

I'm also aware that as soon as Colt bought the design and started manufacturer, a civilian "sporter" was right next to the military versions of the m16. Which means Colt producted the design from the get go for the civilian market.
