Yep! Being on hold is unnerving (sometimes they even hang up!). But then... the question is after they finally respond.. will they ever show up? I still love the city so much. It makes me sad to see what's happened to it.

Believe it or not...... I could find you some that do live in remarkably wealthy homes. Some are outside city limits. They are usually the higher ups. The rest are going to be in the hood, but some of the gang members did have fairly decent houses (not talking about the 'foot soldiers' doing the dirty day by day). The ones on our street did. A lot of the houses are massive brownstones or old farmhouses they've flipped. For the little ones running drugs, it's more about survival, putting food on the table because mom and dad are either not there or incapacitated with their own 'issues'. For other's it's a way of life, virtually the only way of life.

I watched two mornings when she was served the eviction notice (but the house has since been beautifully renovated and a nice family moved in). The really wealthy ones live outside the city. 

 

The best part is last summer when petty crime was making its way into my street/neighbor. The drug dealer came by and said he would make sure this doesn't happen again. Haha.. he doesnt want the police in the area for petty crime when he has business to take care of. 

 

This just about summarizes Baltimore.  

 

And Political yes, in the way legislation needs work (my opinion parties work against each other and nothing is accomplished because of the swings of power and no compromise),. The city is generations behind, the only hope is really starting for the children and working on those generations on. 

OMG... Let me correct this! The drug dealer that is in my neighborhood is about 2 blocks away.  Haha.. I just realized reading this out of context could be very misleading.. Bahahaha. The only reason I know who it is, is because my neighbor has lived in the neighborhood her entire life knows the coming and goings of EVERYONE. haha. I love having her living next to me. Old school Baltimorians.

Isn't it funny that we all know where they live, but the police can't ever seem to find them?

Yeah it is kind of crazy. There are still a couple of the old school Baltimore neighbors around where I live, I love all the old school neighbors, they are so friendly. Sometimes it takes me so long to get to my car in the morning because they all want to stop and chat for 10 minutes. I watch them shake their head at him (the nameless drug dealer) and his friends when they are stooping it when I am walking home at night.

Trying to analyze why these cities are struggling, it difficult to do without living in them and interacting with people that live in these neighbors regularly. In Baltimore city kids were going to schools without heat (the classrooms were 40 degrees). Someone finally decided it was time to do something about it. I saw a 16 year old boy (gang member) with 2 children from different women. The 16 year old boy lived with him grandmother (no parents in his life to give him guidance). This 16 year old was also very respectful and kind to me and the only career he has been show in the city is drug dealing.  It is pretty typical for my patients to come in and have 16 children (none who live with them) and be on medicaid themselves. 

 

You cannot just pull one statistic and think that is the reason why the city is struggling.

i don't even know why we're discussing how gangs in chicago get their guns. was the florida shooter in a gang? did he purchase the gun illegally? no. this is all deflection from the fact that guns are too easily attainable in this country and we have to tighten up.

Well the topic is reducing gun violence  and most of the MDL seems to think the cure is banning Ar-15 style weapons, when in fact every murder in the USA, that was done with an AR15 was taken off the books it would not change the stats , even one percent. 

 

So if we really care about reducing gun violence lets talk about the real source of gun violence in this country.

Not true either; I can buy a gun and sell it the next day.  I’m guessing it goes back to that old rumor that one can buy guns at a gun show without a BG check.  Oh well...

You have to catch a drug deal in the act (I think many foot runners get caught eventually but months later are back on the street). So by the time someone calls it in the deal is done.

 

The second is no cops want to work in Baltimore because of the current political situation, the only cops they can get in the city are green and apparently can be easily corrupt (this was what I was told by my neighbor who is a cop but he is transportation police) but it is what best I can figure. They Baltimore police are completely understaffed which only causes the violence/crime to get more out of hand. 

 

Both times I have called they have shown up (once when I was new to the city my roommate thought I was away for the weekend and called 911 thinking I was a robber at 4:00 am... I am actually on my way out to the airport) The cops were great in that situation 4 showed up and were casing the house. Only to laugh when they figured out the situation but I do hear stories they don't show up because they are understaffed as well.

I had to hold my tongue and not type what I was thinking NB because he will report me AGAIN. Thus I would be suspended AGAIN for something I said about him. At least with Sammich she makes a Logical argument and backs her findings up with something sort of factual.
