you proposed a wall around guns. a bit elementary an idea if you ask me but, in brainstorming all ideas are valid. good job.

Exactly, anyone who says we need arm more people is complete lunacy, the USA is a complete outlier when it comes to school shootings around the world in all of the OECD nations.

What makes all of it so sad is we KNOW it is going to happen again, for years now Pro gun advocates have said we need to do this, we need to do that, we do it and nothing changes. What is the one common denominator in all of these shootings? It's not rocket science.

The politicians particularly those on the Republican side of the aisle are completely spineless to take on the NRA. I think this picture pretty much sums them up:

See, I recognized that as being sarcasm, but it really didn't answer my question.  Therefore, I guess I get to infer by your response that you advocate eliminating all guns.  If this is not the case, then by all means, provide another solution?

Your statement is laughable.....you act as though you can just eliminate guns from our country.....well guess What! It's never going to happen, so instead of chasing some feel good placebo, why not focus on real solutions...like giving our children the same armed protection we give our money in banks.

why does it have to be one extreme or the other?

Quote

Take countries with the top indicators of socioeconomic success — income per person and average education level, for instance. The United States ranks ninth in the world among them, bested only by the likes of Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Iceland, Andorra, Canada and Finland.

Those countries all also enjoy low rates of gun violence, but the U.S. has the 31st highest rate in the world: 3.85 deaths due to gun violence per 100,000 people in 2016. That was eight times higher than the rate in Canada, which had .48 deaths per 100,000 people — and 27 times higher than the one in Denmark, which had .14 deaths per 100,000.

The numbers comes from a massive database maintained by the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, which tracks lives lost in every country, in every year, by every possible cause of death. The 2016 figures, released last fall, paint a fairly rosy picture for much of the world, with deaths due to gun violence rare even in many countries that are extremely poor — such as Bangladesh and Laos, which saw .16 deaths and .13 deaths respectively per 100,000 people.

Prosperous Asian countries such as Singapore and Japan boast the absolute lowest rates, though the United Kingdom and Germany are in almost as good shape.

"It is a little surprising that a country like ours should have this level of gun violence," says Ali Mokdad, a professor of global health and epidemiology at the IHME. "If you compare us to other well-off countries, we really stand out."

i suppose you believe the only solution is 'thoughts and prayers'?

The one common factor seems that he is a known nut job, but we can of course ignore that.

the fact that he is a 'nut job' should be enough to keep access to weapons away from him? why isn't that the case?

Would liberals feel better if he had driven onto the campus and killed 17 students with a car? Would they be calling for a stance against AAA?

Of course not because......

Here come the pro gun advocates, I'm not going to get into a debate with them because all we'll end up doing is going around in circles. Straw man arguments will be put forward (Cars, knives, fists etc etc), they will not cede on any form of change that will significantly reduce the chance of this happening again. Any change to them is perceived to be an attack on the 2nd amendment. I remember the first ever mass shooting in a school in the UK, it was 1995 I believe and it was the last. Here in America it happens with alarmingly regularity. The entire lunacy of the situation is best summed up by the Onion.

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

ij7fmqgjtrcxjavjzliz.jpg

PARKLAND, FL—In the hours following a violent rampage in Florida in which a lone attacker killed 17 individuals and seriously injured over a dozen others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Wednesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Indiana resident Harold Turner, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this individual from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”
