Because access to those guns is not as easy as USA? Or is it Europeans don't feel the need to have a gun to feel safe? Are Americans just more paranoid?

Access is generally more expensive with licensing that expires every 5 to 10 years. Therefore only middle class or upper middle class can afford them. By limiting access to only higher socio-economic groups you are going to see a very positive reduction in gun crime. Thats not exactly fair though by US standards.

Its true that the US has always had more of a gun culture and one example is to compare two contemporaries. In the Crimean war, UK officers and non commission officers had a sabre and either a single shot pistol or one of the early percussion revolvers. Many may have only carried a sabre. In the US civil war it was common for soldiers of all classes to have one, two, or even three percussion revolvers.

Lol. Maybe it was Woolworth.  You calling me old ain't you 🤣

o_O what Woolies did you go to? I remember them very clearly and they never sold guns in my state!

You could get a lovely BLT and some toys though.

A friend of mine is from Norway actually. I believe he does own a gun. Strictly for hunting purposes, and he really can't figure out why on earth we behave the way the USA does with guns.  There's a sort of common sense respectability and deeply ingrained sense of responsibility in ownership. But in America, there's a lot of guys that just feel they are toys to be played with.

But any form of gun control is a no go. There's no compromise at all when it comes to guns themselves. Pro gun advocates aren't even willing to give up semi automatics yet they would still have a wide range of guns available to them. It must just be pure selfishness.

Makes me wonder if you understand anything about firearms.  Do you really know what a semi automatic firearm is?

Yes and any average Joe doesn't really need one. You can defend your own home or hunt to survive without a semi automatic.

you're point was that guns are difficult to get now. seems you have no difficulty.

To buy a gun legally today, there are more requirements than in the past.  I know this because I bought guns 30 years ago, and I had to jump thru less hoops than I have to today.

Provided one has nothing bad on their record, buying one isn’t hard, you just have to provide all that is asked for.  But you can’t just walk in (say to a gun show), and buy any gun you want without a BG check anymore.  At one time, that was possible.

Friend I have one uses a semi automatic, he has had it for 30 years, his view is that if you wound you can be much quicker on the 2nd shot so it is less likely to stagger away wounded.

Indeed. But I still feel overall, Norway still has a healthy respect and attitude about guns and their proper usage as many countries do. You can't stop every crazy, if guns are still available, but you can stop a good bit.

But I just mean in general. The European attitude toward guns isn't for play, show, or need of protection. It's more-so limited strictly hunting and collecting from a cultural standpoint right?

Yes, you use it because the only person who needs a semiautomatic is a soldier on the battlefield. In the possession of anyone else is just overkill.

I would imagine it varies from one European country to another.

Different certainly in the UK.

Gun control in this country? It is minimal compared to the rest of the first world. Just look at the pathetic actions, of the Republicans in Florida who voted down a bill just to debate a ban on assault weapons hours after a school shooting.

Jim.  Read this really slowly.  Assault weapons are already very restricted.  As in, you would pay more for a brand new vehicle than you would for an assault weapon and the permit to own it.

There are roughly 500K in private ownership (perhaps a bit more, if you add in some statistical error and collector refusal to register an older weapon):  MG_Count_FOIA_2016.pdf

Of those, exactly ZERO have been used in the past 20 years that I am aware of.  Banning assault weapons might make you feel good inside, but it wouldn’t change a thing about shootings in the US, since they just aren’t used.
