We seem to have a very unhealthy respect for human life in this country as evidenced by the number of killings here.  I know, the MDL logic says that if the guns were gone this would not happen, I am not so certain of that.

You were talking about "assault weapons"  any weapon used against someone in an assault is by definition an assault weapon.

so instead of having an abundance of guns in comparison with other countries, we somehow produce an abundance of killers with no respect for human life. that is not logical. what it is, something in the water?

I think you are doing a massive disservice to the kids here. The problem is the adults (NRA, who were once advocates of gun control, politicians bought by the NRA) not the kids.

Yes, the problem is all about the guns.  Guns were much more available years ago, up until that point the largest (and still largest to my knowledge) school massacre was the result of a bombing.

Did the school contact the police, or were these referrals coming from others outside the school?

I don't know how it works at this particular school, but in a lot of schools that have armed LEOs, a great deal of oversight is given to them in matters of getting police involved. The police certainly get called to our city schools and make arrests. They do not fool around there. In the high school in this county LEOs guard the outside and get called during altercations, but this failed to stop a rape and kidnapping. Their attitude is as laid back as the police perma posted outside the walmart. I know that in this case they followed normal discipline procedure as they likely would any student. To me it doesn't matter in this scenario - if the police and social services failed to act the 30+ times they were informed, it doesn't seem they were going to get involved no matter whom was begging them to.

Googling ''broward county solution'' as mentioned in your link brings me to sites all repeating the same exact stuff with no sourcing. The original author of an article (which they also did not source) was talking about stuff going on in Pittsburgh and vaguely mentions other states trying solutions for their kids who find themselves with felony charges instead of rehabilitation for non-violent misdemeanors. You have to then follow his proper sources to get to an article via NPR talking about Broward, which is clear that the program is regarding non-violent misdemeanors. The kids basically agree to go get counseling and other interventions to attempt to rehab them instead of dumping them in prison.

Here you can find the protocol as to what offenses fall under that and what actions are taken by administration in regards to counseling and discipline. https://www.browardprevention.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Pages-from-PROMISE-Infraction-Matrix.pdf Weapons to school is not one of those listed, which I would assume (we don't know because it's not been made public) may have been what caused being expelled. It does mention counseling via Harmony. I believe that is the 'mental health center' that he went to for a year, and likely how social services became involved.

access to guns has not become more difficult. i know you keep saying that, but just because you say something doesn't make it true.

It has in Colorado.

can you still buy a gun if you want to?

Sadly there is one I was interested in but following the restriction not available in Colorado.

Thank you for your consideration.

what restriction?

Effective July 1, 2013, Colorado requires background checks for all firearm sales at the buyer's expense. Magazines that are capable of accepting more than 15 rounds or are designed to be readily convertible to accept more than 15 rounds cannot be sold or transferred within state limits. However, such magazines lawfully obtained prior to July 1, 2013 may be kept without restrictions on their use. The magazine restriction law also does not specifically address residents purchasing LCMs from out-of-state sources for personal use, although they may not be possessed within state limits. Colorado's large capacity magazine ban is silent on non-residents visiting Colorado while in possession of magazines that meet the state's LCM ban criteria, provided the LCMs are for personal use, and the individual had lawfully obtained the LCMs according to the laws of his or her home state.[10] Denver city ordinance bans assault weapons[11] and the open carrying of firearms[7].

If someone wants a new law, here is one that might work.  I like the fact that it includes penalties for those that make frivolous accusations.

so you wanted a gun that accepts more than 15 rounds or can easily be converted to do so and now you can't legally get one? i'm sorry. that sounds tragic. you must be in a state of shock. i'm sure it will wear off. time heals all wounds.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.  What part of this is hard for you to comprehend?

you're point was that guns are difficult to get now. seems you have no difficulty.
