As an aside to the current direction of the topic, I was reading live comments people were posting yesterday while this killer first appeared in court.  One person said they were sorry for how society let Cruz down.  They were sorry for the 17 deaths, but even more sorry for Cruz and how society had failed him.

How, exactly, did society fail him?

By not intervening, and letting things go from bad to worse.

Don't get me wrong, he is a lost case. The victims he killed were innocent, and he is accountable for what he did. But I keep asking myself, would all of this happened if someone, anyone had done something years ago before it came to the point that he became a lost case.

definitely, and i agree with that but.. why not have everyone go under the same sorts of checks?

it's a whole different topic, but, not very many people sight the info on brain maturity when it comes to charging a teen as an adult for horrific crimes..it's like we know they're not fully capable but still want full accountability.

And there we have it, finally.  You think everyone who wants to own a gun is psychotic.  Wow.

They just want to tax the poor.

Because its an attempt at compromise and to hit the key demographic. On your latter thoughts, I agree. Will the 30 year old Cruz wake up one day and realize what a mistake his younger self made? I think so. I just hope he is given that opportunity and they don't seek the death penalty (whole other topic, I know).

Of course the rights of victims are no less than a criminal's.

But does that matter in a robbery, hostage situation,  murder, identity theft, or any other sort of crime?  No.  Yet these crimes against humanity happen every single day, despite all efforts towards deterrence, wouldn't you agree?

giving everyone a gun is only going to increase the number of gun related injuries and deaths

and how many deaths would be prevented by properly training and arming teachers?

That's cool.

Does that mean we behave stupidly in a thunderstorm and let chance happen as it may?

I care about young black men, NB. Would you like to start a thread on that completely unrelated subject in how you'd like to address inner-city violence? Seems to me this thread is about a school shooting in Florida, and we all know who the perp was.

since we know he did it, lets have a speedy trial at burn him at the stake on live TV. Now you talking about stopping copy cats.  I can guarantee you that would stop them cold.

As far as banning AR-15's. The next shooter would use a shotgun with 00 buck and the next copy cat would mimic that.

you'll have to use your crystal ball on that one, while you're at it - have a look at how many deaths will result in 30-50 guns being on school premises will cause

Thankfully we're a nation of laws and not inhumanity middle ages stuff. It might sound great to you to broadcast such 'bloodsport', but I actually don't believe it would stop a thing. For many of them their end-goal is to die in a blaze of 'martyr' glory - this would literally give them exactly that.

“I know many people who are pro-gun and others who support gun control but it seems that the media is specifically targeting those in support of gun control to make it seem as if they are the majority, and the liberal news outlets are the ones that seem to make the bigger effort to speak to these people, and I'm talking from experience,” said Minoff, who was interviewed on cable news in primetime.
