So young white men and boys? I just can't see that going anywhere..

Again I'd be all for preventing children and teenagers from being able to purchase a gun. However this has not been the case for every school shooter. Some got them because their parents had them in the home, or the parents bought them for the kid. Adam Lanza's mother was pretty much just as responsible and negligent for all those homicides (including her own) as her son was imo.

There is a guy I listen to in regard to Foreign Policy and Foreign affairs, sometimes affairs like this on the radio(he also has a podcast). He has pretty much linked almost everyone of these shootings to young White Males that have previously been on medication for some type of mental illness. They then get taken off that medication and don't know how to act in according to the rules and laws of society. It does make sense and I agree with it. The question is what are we going to do about it?

I do think gun owners are at a cross roads now. Right now everyone is calling for banning gun type A or type B. It would be better to do more to ban the person type and not the gun. If we continue to follow the not 1 inch mentality we will eventually lose.

so, it would be better to ban a type of person than a type of gun? and your reasoning?

So you are saying because one person can't reason, no one can? Typical MDR stereotyping.

I was living on my own at 17, working 8 hour shifts and finishing high school. I rented a room from an older couple who helped me a lot to make sure I kept on the right track. The gentleman who rented me the room had dropped out of high school himself to fight in WWII. Many young people of his generation made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Your comments that young people can't make responsible decisions and think for themselves at that age is not just off the mark, it's offensive to the many young people who do and who have.

Sounds great.

Are you saying the youth of today are making the same good decisions as the youth of our generation or prior to ours?

If anything is done it will be in regards to mental health and background checks. No way nor should there be any ban of semi automatic firearms.

Not race or sex but age is acceptable. Add additional requirements at the Federal Level for younger people to purchase.

If the majority of shooters are between 15-25, adding additional layers of security for this age group to purchase say a semiautomatic will limit future attacks.

Come on, Yuna, you know better than that.  Mentally deficient folks.  Why try to make that comment a racial thing?

but that doesn't take into consideration say, the las vegas shooter..i'm all for limiting access and additional background checks but when the largest demographic of mass shooter is "white male" i agree with yuna..that isn't going to go anywhere.

The Las Vegas shooter is a statistical outlier in the US and we still don't even know his motive.

I think this tragedy proofs again that even with the many, many ,many red flags people are more occupied with their own concerns, instead of paying attention and realizing that this kid needs to be stopped.

The FBI was very specifically told that the kid  was a danger, and that he might shoot up a school......yet the FBI failed to inform the Miami office....This was simply a failure of the FBI to do their job...and it cost 17 people their lives.

Had there been real protective measures in place, this tragedy could have been minimized despite this FBI failure.

how is he a statistical outlier? every statistic i've seen concerning mass shooters in the us shows the highest percentage going to white males.

In most schools, Right now, there is no safety net when society and the FBI fail to their jobs.  "Gun free zone" signs don't stop ANYONE.

He was 64, far older than most mass shooters.
