Well for number 1, you forgot about the gun show loop hole so that's not entirely true. Why would you need a semi automatic? Why the need? If you cannot have an automatic weapon due to the ban in 86? and that was OK why isn't a semi automatic?

semi autos have been around for over 100 years..........

automatics were banned over 80 years ago - not sure who's doing your research but you need to fire them.

The gun show loophole is a bit of a month according to this recent study:

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jan/3/most-illegal-attempts-to-buy-guns-online-fail/

Semi-automatic are invaluable defensive tools. Many countries allow semi-automatics and do not have high gun deaths.

I've been and will always be staunchly pro gun. I think with this latest shooting I could see a German law helping the USA. In Germany, if you are under 25 you must go through a mental health check.

Then why aren't automatic weapons legal? If automatics aren't allowed, why are semi automatics? As we saw in Vegas you can convert a semi into an automatic.

6. Semi-automatic weapons should be off limits. You don't need one to defend your family or hunting.

Do you know the difference between an automatic weapon and a semi-automatic weapon?  Yes, you DO need one to defend your family.......

Automatic weapons aren't really needed for individual self defense. They are squad weapons used for suppression of the enemy so that your friends can take the position.

Glad to see there is some common ground. Do I have a gun? No, I've never desired or felt I ever needed one. I'm more likely to be killed by my own gun in my own home than by somebody's else's.

#fakenews on the so-called gun show loophole.  No such thing.  I know, because I have TRIED to buy a gun illegally at a gun show, just last year, to prove that it cannot be done.  I went to three different sellers, and none would sell to me.  Why?  Because the gun show was in GA, and my address was in AL.  Dealers at gun shows are FFLs, and as such, they must comply with the law no matter WHERE they sell a gun.

Why not a semi-automatic?  Each gun has it’s own particular charm via its operating practices.  I have fired fully automatics, semi-autos, burst, single shot, bolt action, revolvers, black powder rifles and pistols, even BB guns and pellet rifles and pistols (oh, and hand grenades, too, but we’re talking guns, eh?)... pretty much ever style there is, I believe.  A semi-auto is particularly handy when hunting in difficult areas, as they allow for quicker follow-ups if one misses the first shot (common in dense brush).  And I CAN own a fully automatic weapon, if I so choose.  I have a perfect record, and the only thing between me and owning one is that I don’t have the desire to part with that amount of money.  Very expensive.

I doubt you are likely to be killed by a gun in your own house, unless you are a complete idiot.  I have owned guns since I was seven years old (longer than you have been alive, I reckon).  And while accidents DO happen, people with a healthy respect for and thorough knowledge of proper gun handling know how to treat all firearms.  Even a lowly little pellet gun.

^not exactly true can get a license for fully automatic. More requirements but easily obtained but under the ATF.

not to mention one can easily modify semi to be fully automatic if so inclined.

So you want everyone running around with single bolt action rifles or revolvers?

I know right. U wonder if he even knows what semi automatic means.  That would ban s vast majority of guns.

He is from the UK where semiautomatic weapons are banned...sort of.

They have what are called MARS rifles in the UK which are virtually semiauto. Two pulls of the trigger per round instead of one.

And just exactly how is the NRA responsible for any of the tragedies?

Don't you know the NRA advocates criminals and crazies buying and owning guns?

You can't reason with him in regards to that I have told him numerous times before that the gun show loophole is fake and doesn't exist. But he never ever believes me.

Its not fake. It does exist, its just under rare circumstances and there is no evidence that it increases crime or death rates.
