what? anything to avoid common sense gun control i guess. sure, public schools should be monitoring former students' extra curricular activities and gun purchases. like they don't have enough to do already.

I am asking a serious question here so please humor me. When did he last go to school, and at what age, when is his bday? Sure, schools are routinely expelling and suspending students that happened outside of school grounds on social media and what have you.

i don't know the answers to any of those questions. yes, schools can expel and suspend students for events outside of school. but they are not expected to keep former students from purchasing guns.

So you want to jump to the same argument of taking guns from everybody.

FBI was warned about alleged shooter nearly 5 months ago, tipster says

Probably too busy chasing down imaginary Russians.

i don't think it should be so easy/quick to purchase a gun. i haven't said anything about taking guns from everybody.

One of the few times that I agree with you. This kid should have been on a statewide list due to how mental he was. I know in NC they have list like that for Handgun purposes.

Jordan Jereb told The Associated Press on Thursday that his group wants Florida to become its own white ethno-state. He said his group holds “spontaneous random demonstrations” and tries not to participate in the modern world.

Jereb said he didn’t know Cruz personally and that “he acted on his own behalf of what he just did and he’s solely responsible for what he just did.”

He also said he had “trouble with a girl” and he believed the timing of the attack, carried out on Valentine’s Day, wasn’t a coincidence.

Nineteen-year-old Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder in the shooting.

http://wivb.com/2018/02/15/white-nationalist-militia-says-school-shooting-suspect-was-member/

Another local article - stated that he had been introduced to the group via a family member, regularly carpooled with them, and participated in other activities with the group. It's a newer one, but it is said to be associated with Atomwaffen in some way, which was highlighted very recently... they love Hitler and Charles Manson... want to start a race war, and have been involved in a string of horrific murders nationwide. The leader of this Florida group, was also involved in threats of violence at the Governor's office.

He obviously had serious mental issues because the school made him bring his things in a Ziploc bag and not in a bookbag. So there was something there that some should have said something to them. What's this I hear about how the FBI got a tip about him a couple months ago as well??????????????? Sorry but I get a tip on someone about how they may shoot someone then I am going to investigate and take any and all guns in the house away, not to mention make him ineligible to buy one until he gets a court order.

This is what I've seen so far: He was reported to them in Sept 2017, though his online presence goes back further. He utilized a variation of spelling of his name. By the time the FBI had received this tip, he had a well established history and pattern of crazed/violent behavior. But what do you do? People say things but never act. He bought his stuff legally, apparently. It's a fine line - do we start violating a person's rights based upon every tip? Because... I could tell you some tales.. of things seen online said by some disturbing kids (and adults). There are reportedly forums that were aware of him and his postings. It's the same old story you know? There's been plenty of homegrown terrorists and neo-Nazi groups that are investigated and monitored.. no action is ever taken because their hands are tied. From experience in running a forum iirc a time when the FBI came to a forum we ran, during Columbine. They sought records of certain individuals. What became of it I don't know. But usually they only ever seem to take action - when words are acted out.

So when is his bday and when did he turn 18? If he was in school at that time they could have control over it. Also if there is a threat like this and someone reports it then yes they should have followed up on it. But alas they are still looking for that Russian collusion so no manpower to actually look for credible threats.

There has been some argument that had he still been in school, instead of expelling him, the school system could have used an act to put him in a 72hr psychiatric hold. But by that time he was already expelled and he was already previously going to a mental health clinic (guess that didn't do anything for him either?). I believe the school felt that getting off the property was more important than his mental well-being. His family clearly wasn't a factor for helping him. But really, the police had been called many times to his home about his behavior, the current people he lived with was aware he had guns... everyone always knows the person is a timebomb.

Investigations into persons like this aren't handled by the same people focusing on potential misdeeds in the government. If the FBI had been expanding vast manpower looking at Hillary right now, would you say the same? This will be handled by his local field office, with local officers not involved in stuff going on in Washington.

So I am going to paraphrase Yuna here for a sec "He bought his stuff legally, apparently." So that means he had to go through a NICS check to buy a handgun Legally through a reputable dealer/merchant. Why couldn't they put a link/hit on that name to where if it came up then the dealer/merchant is supposed to hold the firearm for X amount of days until it's clear or by state law they allowed to turn it over to the customer if they want to????

I know when I bought my AK in CA the state had a hit on my name for a stupid traffic ticket I had from 2003, and I bought my weapon in 2013. So the merchant held my weapon for 30 days until he was legally allowed to turn it over to me if he choose to unless the state came back during that 30 days saying "No he can't have it".

OK I think the way incidents like this are dealt with is far too specific. We can look into the background of this kid all we want but it will not lead us to the answer. We need to look at the bigger picture and not focus solely on these incidents on a case by case basis. This is what is relevant:

  • 2018 2 killed in Kentucky high school shooting
  • 2017 2 killed in New Mexico high school shooting
  • 2017 1 killed in Washington high school shooting
  • 2017 2 killed in CA elementary school shooting
  • 2016 1 killed in SC elementary school shooting
  • 2014 4 killed in Washington high school shooting
  • 2014 1 killed in Oregon high school shooting
  • 2013 1 killed in Colorado high school shooting
  • 2013 1 killed in Nevada middle school shooting
  • 2012 26 killed in Sandy Hook Elementary shooting
  • 2012 3 killed in Ohio high school shooting
  • 2011 1 killed in Nebraska high school shooting
  • 2010 1 killed in Alabama high school shooting
  • 2008 1 killed in Tennessee high school shooting
  • 2006 5 killed in Amish schoolhouse shooting
  • 2006 1 killed in Colorado high school shooting
  • 2005 1 killed in Tennessee high school shooting
  • 2005 7 killed in Minnesota high school shooting
  • 2003 1 killed in Minnesota high school shooting
  • 2003 1 killed in Pennsylvania high school shooting
  • 2001 2 killed in California high school shooting
  • 2000 1 killed in Florida high school shooting
  • 1999 13 killed in Columbine High School shooting

This list doesn't even include many many other mass shootings that have occurred since Columbine

How are you going to stop people commiting suicide on school premises?

Good grief:

Quote

“There’s a very real sense of feminism being a cancer. That could’ve played into what he did, but we have female members of RoF,” Jereb said, adding that “we’re not a big fan of Jews. I think there were a lot of Jews at the school that might have been messing with him.”

“I’m not trying to glorify it, but he was pretty efficient in what he did,” Jereb said. “He probably used that training to do what he did yesterday. Nobody I know told him to do that, he just freaked out.”

Cruz received at least one of his guns through the white supremacist group, according to Jereb.

“I think somebody bought him a Mosin–Nagant, but that’s bolt action. He had a semi-automatic in the school,” Jereb said. https://www.thedailybeast.com/nikolas-cruz-trained-with-florida-white-supremacist-group-leader-say

Blame women. Blame Jews. He was so efficient in murdering all those people! Oh and we bought him a gun too!

What a charmer...

Also I believe this school used armed guards.

It's obvious what the problem is but some people in this country turn a blind ignorant eye to it. I don't know whether it's because of paranoia or the 2nd amendment is too precious for them. Precious enough that children are seen as nothing more than collateral damage.

You prove my point right there since you don't even know what a AK is. An AK is basically what you call a "Russian Assault Rifle" NOT A HANDGUN.
