Hey guys,

Forgive me if I've posted in the wrong portal!

Can anyone shed light on this process. I've searched previous threads but can't seem to find any from recent years.

I'm an Australian who lived in Canada on a Working Holiday Visa for over 12 months and I'm trying to find out how to apply for a Canadian Police certificate. Being outside of Canada there's a different process and from what I gather you need to pay someone to take your fingerprints (in your home country) and have them sent to Canada to have the check done?

The timeline on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police website says it can take up to 22 weeks for  processing if NO match is found... hence why I'm trying to get the ball rolling with this one now since if I wait until closer to the NOA2 date it may not arrive before my interview.

I did read a thread from another aussie who mentioned hers never arrived in time for her interview and when she went in and they asked about living outside of Australia they didn't require any Police Checks from her Working Holiday Visa stints abroad... (and as much as I wanna just hope they do the same for me I do want to attempt to get the cert)

So if anyone has done this recently from outside of Canada I'd love to hear how you did it cause the website is super vague and confusing!

TIA <3

You will need the rcmp police check because you spent so long in Canada.  Its unfortunate you didnt get one before leaving but I doubt it is something people ever think about needing in the future.  There is a way to apply with digital fingerprints.  Im not sure exactly how though.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I ended up emailing them and they responded super fast! They have various agencies you can go through to have your fingerprints taken and digitized to Canadian requirements. If only i'd have known i'd need this down the track this way seems like it'll take quite a while! I'm still waiting on my NOA1 though so I have plenty of time. :)

You do have plenty of time! just so you know, my fiance did this in October (same situation, spent 2 years in Canada, back in Australia just until our k-1 visa is approved) and he had his certificate in about a month. He went through one of the agencies listed on the RCMP website...It cost around $250 in all, I believe. He did have to go to his local police station for finger printing. They required an appointment, which he didn't know ahead of time, so you may want to call your local station to check. The AU federal police check was very quick, I'm sure it is the same one you had to do for your Canadian visa, and that only took about a week and a half. We are July 10th i129f filers, and we got our NOA2 just a few weeks ago. If you have any questions that we may be able to help with, please don't hesitate to message! This can be such a stressful process, it has helped us tremendously to have people to reach out to who have been through it :-)

Thank you so much for sharing all that info! It's so nice to hear when someone's been there done that because honestly this entire process is so overwhelming already and we're only at the beginning! I'm going to contact one of the agencies today and get the ball rolling. I just want to be as prepared as I can be because I'd hate to think that all these months that I sit around waiting for the NOA2 I could be doing something productive.

Good to know about the appointment too! I'm going to make sure I give my local station a call ahead of time to lock that in.

Do you remember if he just did the Federal name check? That's the one I did for my Canadian work visa I never did the fingerprinting one (which was substantially more expensive)

Thank you so much for that offer! I will I'm sure definitely have a few questions along the way so you probably will hear from me again lol. It's so nice to have the help from this forum available because it is so stressful at times knowing what to do next / how to fill in certain paperwork because at the end of the day we just want to be with our loved one sooner and the thought of once hiccup or delay is so heartbreaking!

Yes, the federal name check is fine. I totally know what you mean about the idea of delays-it has been especially important to us to get things done completely and accurately (we are working with an attorney as well), we have a little one on the way who will be arriving within a day or two now. Unfortunately the process was not quick enough to bring my fiance here by his birth, but we hope to schedule the interview soon and have our family together quickly :-) Happy to help in any way we can.

I'm so sorry the process wasn't quicker for you, I can't imagine how frustrating it is for you that the process has become so much slower recently :(

That is so exciting that you are due any day now! Wishing you all the best and sending you all the positivity for a speedy interview process so you can all be together soon! Stay in touch <3

Thank you again!!!
