DELAYED RESPONSE FROM USCIS FOR REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS

Hello everyone!

 

Please I need helps asap. My daughters and I did our biometrics for removal of conditions on DECEMBER 1ST 2016. We have since not heard anything since then. My extended green card expired on February 7th 2018! I NEED to travel to Florida on Tuesday February 13th. We live in Massachusetts. Our processing center is Vermont. I have no idea what to do. Please help me!

Well for one thing you only need a State ID or driver's license to fly to FL. Or even your passport works. I've travelled domestically using those with no issues.

 

You're outside processing time for Vermont, so have you filed a service request yet?

No. How do I go about doing that? Is it safe for me to FLY from Massachusetts to Florida on Tuesday, knowing that im out of status?

Yes, I have a driver's license, which I planned to use. But my worry is this news of ICE at the airports. Am I safe? How do I file a service request please?

You're not out of status, you just don't have proof of your status. It is safe to fly within the US. File that service request online, maybe it will nudge things along: https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/Intro.do

 

When you come back from your trip, if you still haven't heard anything then book an Infopass appointment https://my.uscis.gov/appointment

 

You will need to take your passport, your expired green card + extension letter and the appointment letter (you'll need to print it out). Tell them at the appointment you need an I-551 stamp because your green card + extension have both expired and you're still waiting to hear back on your I-751. I had to do this back in October and it's painless.

 

But I want to reiterate: You are not out of status and you can travel domestically. Just don't leave the US without an I-551 stamp or your new green card or you will have trouble coming back in.

Have your checked your case status online?  Like mentioned above, your should have been approved by now, Vermont center is already approving Feb 2017 filers.

Right now they are on September 2016 filers. It's taking 15 months so you still have another 2 to 3 moths. Get another stamp like suggested. This is the processing times.

You are not out of status.

Get a stamp at an infopass appointment https://my.uscis.gov/appointment and you will then have proof of your current (unchanged) status as a lawful permanent resident

A quick update to my post. So I checked our status a few minutes ago and following is the message I found:-

 

On February 27, 2018, we received your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number xxxxxxxxxxxx at your local office. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

 

Does this mean we shall be hearing from them soon?

There is a 20 page thread full of others who have got this message. 

 

 

Transferred to local orifice used to mean that an interview would be scheduled, but the case status never updated to reflect this.

This is more than likely a mass system glitch - the local offices could not handle the workload that such a massive case transfer would generate - they can barely cope as it is.
