Number of days spent outside US.

Hi Vj forum members.

I am applying for  N400 based on 3 years of marriage to USC. My POE was 2014 and I have been outside of US for 3 months. The N400 asks for the number of days stayed outside of US since last 5 years. What should I put down? Thank you.

This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes Psalm 118:23:)

Hey Kay&K, Its nice to see that you have joined the N400 route.

We both have similar timelines and I sent my N400 in December.

You have to put the number of days that you were out of the country which is 90/91 days according to the months you were out of the country.

In the next section they will ask you in detail about when and how long each stay was.

Just look into you passport and check the exit and entry dates and calculate the days.

My husband will be doing same path here.    3 years under marriage guidelines, but they are asking for 5 years history.   You don't account for the 2 years before POE?

Thanks Ariendj!

So glad to see you in the N400 circuit. Thanks for the input. I had the same question as the above poster. The form asks for 5 years history but I have been here since 2014.

Timeline

You will have to fill in details that was prior to your entry to the US.

The weird part is that you cant even have a gap of few days in between.

My timeline for the past 5 years had gaps of  a few days to a month but I just tried extending dates in order to look like I was engaged in work or study all the while.

Sorry 🙏 could you explain that a wee bit further? I came here on Dec 2014. And when they say past 5 years , do they mean from March 2013-March 2018? Someone else mentioned in a different post that since I am applying under the 3 year rule, i need to "read" all 5 year starements as 3 years. So confused 😕 😂

yes from March 2013 onwards with no gap in days.

For example.

if you were attending a school till may 10 and started working on may 20. you cannot leave the 10 days empty but complete it with either saying you had school till may 19 or started working on may 11.

hope you understood.

OP's original question was just for days outside the US.

If you input all the time you were outside the US before you became a Permanent Resident they probably won't let you put the application through online, since there would be too many days absent.  Only claim the trips outside the US starting when you became a permanent resident.

You will have to enter jobs and residences for the full 5 years, even though some of them will be in your home country. They'll figure it out.

If you were filing on paper, you would only fill out 3 years' worth of each, but the online form won't let you go on to the next topic if you don't fill out the full 5 years for employment and residence.

Is your timeline updated?
