Traveling before date written in application

Hi all,

I have a question about dates that were filled out in the application for Tourist B2 visa. Can travel date change to earlier? For example we filled out date of trip to be in June, but now the plans are changing and if the visa to be approved, would want to travel in March. Would it be a cause for them to deny entry in immigration upon getting into US airport? How stringent are they about it? Also is staying for 1.5 months instead of mentioned 2,5 weeks be a cause for them to deny entry or cancel visa? I really don't want to re-fill out the application, but will the changes like that if visa is approved by consul result in problems in immigration?

Generally, no that’s not a problem. The CBP officer does have discretion though.  Be sure to have evidence that you’ll return home with you in case you need it to show CBP.

You can update your plans at the interview.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Sounds great! Thank you for all the responses. So, to be clear, both options are OK with no re precautions?

  1. Change dates and trip duration after interview even though application specified different dates?
  2. During interview say that dates are possibly will change? And not same as previously filled out in application?

Sorry for all the questions, just nervous about not getting some part right.

If you haven’t had the interview yet then definitely tell them about the change in plans.

changing dates is fine within reason. If you apply stating 2 weeks duration but arrive with a 6 months less one day trip planned, there could be issues.

Keep things simple and tell the truth.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Yes, obviously telling the truth is a given. We are just keep on going back and forth on for how long to go for, and what to see, who's birthday to attend etc, if visa to be approved. What's adding to this indecision is fact that application already been submitted with the dates were thought of before.

Tell them what they at the time of the interview.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

so i read some information about form i-94 and that if you overstay even 1 day your visa is automatically cancelled.

Does that mean if when entering US and lets say I state that will be there till June 1st, but then change my flight to June 20th, my visa will automatically get revoked?

Your I94 is valid till when the CBP officer says it is, not what you want it to be. They might give you 2 weeks (rare)  or 6 months. It’s not dependent on your return flight.

I see, but what about my flight back? I buy ticket for may 1- june15 for example, then CBP officer says just 2 weeks, so I have to change my flight? this is really unclear, they only will tell me that upon entry?

Most people get 6 months, sometimes 3. But certainly if they give you less than what you’ve planned on yes you’ll need to change your flight back. 2 weeks was just an example of an extreme outcome. If you’re a normal visitor with decent ties then a 6 week visit should be fine.

Yes

I have changed my ticket, well once.
