I use google voice.  I have the app on my smart phone which works over internet (of course) using a phone number is a U.S. number in my home area.    And this is FREE.

Plus I have an OBI (or 2) that I plug my landline phone into - been using this as my home phone for years.

I kicked magic jack to the curb many years ago.

So the OBI you are using in USA or Philippines?

When I am in PI in March I will have to make phone calls to my employer's landline.  What is the best way, short of using my US cellphone.

My employer doesn't know about my international trip as I am working remote and I don't want to let them know..  :)

Barking Dogs, Rooster clucking, Motorcycles and Tricycles noise seem to be a constant background noise when I get a phone call from Philippines.

What you gonna do? Barricade yourself in room?

Both.  I have an OBI here in our house in the U.S.   and I have one in our home in the Philippines so that family there can call here without a charge (actually they can call anywhere in the USA or Canada free).

I don't like using a cell phone so I have the OBI and google voice  it works great and is crystal clear from anywhere.

I used Majicjack a lot in years past.  It worked very, very well from Paris, Taiwan, Costa Rica, London, Curaçao ......I loved it!!

Get the google voice app setup on your phone B4 you leave the States, can't set it up from the Philippines.  I kept forgetting to get the app setup when in the USA, then once in the Phils I would go -  damn.  But then I had the OBI there also so not a big deal.

Use a VPN if it is an issue, not sure why it would be.

It is google, vpn is needed.     What my issue was; to set it up on my smartphone I needed to receive a text on my U.S. cell phone number and reply .. being I kept forgetting to do it while in the USA .. well you get the drift.

You can not get texts in PI?
